  • 📣Big news from the European Parliament! Yesterday, the ENVI Committee voted overwhelmingly (84 in favor, 2 against) to start negotiations on the Waste Framework Directive. This revision is crucial for shaping Europe’s waste management policies and ensuring a sustainable future. 🌱At Reusable Packaging Europe (RPE), we urge policymakers to recognize the vital role of Reusable Transport Packaging (RTP) in preventing food waste and reducing packaging damage during transportation. Here’s why: 1. 𝗥𝗧𝗣 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲: RTP reduces food wastage by 97% during the transport phase, saving 35,000 tonnes of fresh produce every year. This ensures safe and sustainable delivery of fruits and vegetables across the EU. 2. 𝗥𝗧𝗣 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲: RTP is far more durable than disposable packaging, reducing damage rates to just 0.1%, compared to 4% for disposable options. This robustness saves about €66 million annually in damaged goods, in Germany alone. 3. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀: Consistency across all Member States is essential to meet the EU’s circular economy goals. RTP offers a nearly 100% recycling rate, compared to 83% for cardboard, and reduces resource-intensive processes. 💚RPE is ready to support the EU in realizing its waste management and sustainability ambitions. We strongly advocate for the introduction of binding reusable packaging measures to create incentives for businesses to invest in sustainable solutions.  🕓It’s time to harmonize efforts across all Member States and move towards a more circular economy. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #WasteReduction #WasteFrameworkDirective
