It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of Professor Simon Doherty. Simon was an exceptional individual who worked tirelessly for the veterinary profession. Just two weeks ago, he was honoured with the FVE Award for his outstanding contributions to the profession. Earlier this year, he also received the inaugural WVA 'Veterinarian of the Year Award.' He served as Chair of the FVE FishMedPlus Coalition, Past Chair of the FVE Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety Working Group, and Past President of the British Veterinary Association. Among his many achievements, he authored FVE’s pandemic preparedness position paper, adopted earlier this year. Simon’s unwavering commitment to the veterinary profession extended across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe, and beyond. His work, vision, and passion have left an extraordinary legacy that will continue to influence and inspire veterinarians for generations to come. Above all, Simon’s warmth, generosity, and dedication made him a true inspiration to everyone who knew him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Simon’s family, friends, and colleagues. His presence will be deeply missed.
