About us
The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is an independent grant-making organisation, established by the European Union (EU) and EU member states to foster democracy in the European neighbourhood (Eastern Partnership - EaP - countries and the Middle East and North Africa - MENA region) and beyond. EED's goal is to provide flexible support to democracy activists, complementing other EU and member state democracy support programmes. It is a demand-driven organisation that bases its support on a principle of fostering - not imposing - democracy and facilitating local initiatives. EED's partners and grantees are dedicated individuals, human rights and political activists, pro-democratic movements, independent media outlets and journalists.

Anwal Forum was founded to assist young people from Rif, one of the poorest regions in Morocco, to receive legal aid following the suppression of protests against corruption and a stagnant economy in 2017. It also launched awareness campaigns on the severe punishments the protesters faced. Thanks to EED support, the Anwal Forum has launched a "Youth Academy for Change", a series of workshops teaching young people practical advocacy skills such as writing petitions and evaluating public policies. “In the future, we will continue to work with young people to advocate for youth-centered public policies and keep youth engaged, to improve transparency and access to information, and to enhance participatory democracy in our region,” says founder Mohammed El Hammouchi. Dobrochyn Center NGO's Nataliya Drozd shares their plans for Ukraine's future. Simply investing is not enough to rebuild a country that millions have left. Local communities need to be greatly involved in the process, and civil society needs to play a key role in the reconstruction of the country. https://lnkd.in/dx6fAbkx
