👏 ENCATC celebrates the 70 years of the European Cultural Convention of the Council of Europe, adopted on 19 December 1954! This milestone is an opportunity to honour its vision of culture as a unifying force for understanding, diversity, and shared human values. The Convention emphasised the importance of culture, art, education, and heritage in fostering mutual respect and strengthening democracy. Its principles remain as relevant today as ever, reminding us of the essential role creativity and cultural expression play in promoting freedom, dignity, and unity across Europe. 📌 "Culture is an expression of humanity and a desire for freedom, sustaining democracy and creating spaces for dialogue and understanding" remarked Matjaž Gruden, Director for Democracy at the Council of Europe, in ENCATC’s latest magazine. 👉 In this special interview, we had the privilege of engaging with Mr. Gruden to explore the significance of this anniversary in today’s context, discussing the evolution of the Convention, the challenges it faces, and the enduring role of culture as a tool for unity and progress, among other key topics. 🔗 Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/eYVii6wZ

⛪ A historic moment for cultural heritage: Notre-Dame de Paris reopens its doors this weekend! Explore the journey behind this extraordinary restoration in ENCATC Magazine #7, featuring exclusive insights into the pioneering fusion of heritage science and craftsmanship. 🪵 ATELIERS PERRAULT FRERES, a prestigious French company rooted in Anjou since 1760, played a vital role in bringing Notre-Dame back to life. Combining centuries-old artisanal expertise with modern techniques, they undertook the delicate task of hand-selecting, shaping, and assembling timber to restore this global icon. Jean-Louis Bidet shares the team's pride in contributing to such a monumental project, which represents heritage preservation at its finest. 🔍 Maxime L'HERITIER, Associate Professor of Medieval History at the University of Paris 8 and the ArScAn CNRS Laboratory, sheds light on the unprecedented collaboration of nearly 250 scientists and artisans. Through meticulous analysis of stone, wood, metal, and lead, they unearthed insights into medieval construction, sustainable recycling practices, and advanced restoration techniques.
