  • 📰 EFIEES' weekly news from the EU bubble! Last week before the holidays was busy for the EU bubble, our team has selected the most relevant news related to EFIEES' activies to keep you informed about developments within the EU Bubble. Here are the highlights of the week: 🌟 Eight Member States back the 2040 goal of a 90% emissions reduction from 1990 levels. 🌟 European auditors highlight delays and inefficiencies in enforcing EU law, urging stronger mechanisms. 🌟 Renewables accounted for 24.5% of EU energy use in 2023, per Eurostat data. 🌟 EU energy ministers call for a geothermal action plan to decarbonise heating and cooling.

  • EFIEES was proud to have our Secretary General, Valérie Plainemaison, speak at the Covenant of Mayors - Europe & SmarEPC webinar 'Activate Your SECAP! Hands-on training on Energy Performance Contracting,' organised by Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy Europe. 🇪🇺 In her presentation, Valérie emphasised the essential contribution of ESCOs (Energy Service Companies) to achieving energy savings and supporting decarbonisation efforts through Energy Performance Contracts (EnPCs). 💡She explained in detail what an ESCO is: a company that offers (energy) services to final energy users, who can be a wide range of clients such as public or private building owners/users, in the housing or tertiary sectors, hospitals, schools/universities, sports equipments, industry etc. ESCO’s action consist in designing and implementing energy-efficiency projects and also possibly renewable energy projects, in many cases on a turn-key basis, with a remuneration linked to the energy savings/performance over time.   When working under Energy Performance Contracting, they engage on a guaranteed energy consumption level, possibly combined with a CO2 performance level relying also on a fuel switch action, covering a series of tasks, from initial evaluation of the client’s energy performance to proposing investments and measures in energy efficiency/decarbonisation, and to maintaining and operating the equipment/building. ESCOs, associated with the construction sector working on the building’s envelope, are a crucial actor for buildings renovation, for improved industry competitiveness.   With the ESCO model, clients are served with a unique contracting partner, ensuring a holistic evaluation, design and functioning of the user’s energy equipments, under integrated procurement process, instead of multiple ones for each task. #EnergyEfficiency #Decarbonisation #ESCOs"
