With a background in Bioscience Engineering and a Master's degree from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Olivier brings expertise in remote sensing to our company. Olivier's diverse experience includes roles such as Junior Captain at Bossenstein Golf & Polo Club, where he honed his leadership skills, Internship Trainee at GIM - Smart Geo Insights, where he utilised remote sensing and machine learning for data engineering, and PGA Instructor at The National Golf Brussels, showcasing his dedication and teaching skills in sports. His thesis focussed on mapping urban green using hyperspectral images from Nasa’s AVIRIS-NG hyperspectral sensor. In his new role, Olivier will design, develop, and optimise tailored applications to meet customer needs, ensuring they perform reliably and efficiently. Additionally, Olivier will be deeply involved in our R&D efforts, collaborating with the team to explore new technologies, refine our product offerings, and identify opportunities for innovation. His remote sensing and data engineering expertise will be invaluable in this process as we strive to stay at the forefront of our industry. We are confident that Olivier's multifaceted skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and passion for innovation will be instrumental in driving our company's growth and success. 🔍 The Challenge in Environment Understanding, Situational Awareness and ODD extension In order to bring real full autonomy, one of the critical hurdles we face is the ability to "see" and interpret the environment in allweather and environmental conditions. The Operational Design Domain (ODD) for high-level autonomy and situational awareness is heavily constrained by sensor effectiveness in adverse weather and dirty environments. While sensor cleaning can mitigate some issues, it is far from a comprehensive solution. With traditional sensors visibility is impaired by dust, rain, snow, etc. Therefore, they struggle to provide reliable data, have a reduced detection range that may lead to potential safety hazards and limiting the capabilities of autonomous systems, and situational awareness. Previously, he served as the Director of Autonomous Driving R&D at Rimac Technology, where he tackled the complexities of high-speed self-driving technology. He also held the position of Director of AI at P3 Mobility, contributing to the advancement of Robotaxi solutions. Before these roles, Sacha led a research lab within the Toyota Group companies, driving fundamental research in advanced driver assistance systems and future technologies. He has also shared his expertise as a professor at Nice University, France. Sacha's research interests span computer vision, machine learning, blind source separation, and statistical signal processing.
