About us
ANEC is the European consumer voice in standardisation. It promotes, represents and defends the collective consumer interest in the processes of technical standardisation, conformity assessment, accreditation, market surveillance & enforcement, as well as in European legislation and public policies related to standards or the use of standards. Its membership is open to the national representatives of consumer organisations in 34 countries. Recognised under Regulation (EU) 1025/2012 on European standardisation, ANEC is funded by the European Union and the European Free Trade Association, while the work of its network of voluntary experts is considered a contribution in kind. 📢 ANEC & BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation issued a joint media release today as the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) becomes applicable tomorrow, 13 December! Stephen Russell, Director-General of ANEC, said: “We very much welcome the stronger safety criteria to assess which products are “safe”. This includes special mention of vulnerable groups such as children, gender safety aspects, and cybersecurity requirements. It is good news the GPSR will require standards bodies and manufacturers to develop inclusive standards and empower the authorities to act when standards are not inclusive.
