From farm to plate! 🌾 WWF-Viet Nam showcased some incredible dishes made from local produce cultivated with nature-based farming methods at a recent networking dinner. Through Climate Resilient by Nature, WWF-Viet Nam is working with farmers to embrace flood-based farming techniques. This innovative method uses river water to grow “floating” rice that thrives without pesticides. On the night, some of Saigon’s top chefs created delicious dishes using floating rice, lotus roots, prawns and crabs – all cultivated with the power of nature-based solutions. 🌿🦐 WWF-Australia joined representatives from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, businesses, and investors to explore how these solutions can benefit climate, communities and nature. See what happens when nature and innovation come together: https://lnkd.in/gQNSHw-f Climate Resilient by Nature is an Australia Government funded initiative in partnership with WWF-Australia supporting nature-based solutions in Indo-Pacific.

The Pacific is home to globally significant biodiversity and ecosystems. But unsustainable development and inequity is putting these ecosystems under threat. Unsustainable commercial logging has been ongoing for more than 40 years in countries like Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea causing environmental damage as well as severe social impacts, particularly at the community level. The urgency to protect forests from excessive logging combined with the need to explore alternative, sustainable economic pathways call for novel approaches to forest conservation. The development of voluntary carbon markets (VCM) driven by nature-based solutions could offer pathways to sustainable finance while conserving forests and delivering benefits to communities. In the third instalment of Climate Resilient by Nature’s learning series on carbon markets, in collaboration with Sustineo P/L we assess the potential of VCM forest carbon projects as a novel approach to forest conservation and how benefits can be best realised. Max the superhero dog is helping save koalas once again! 🐨 Max, the scat-sniffing English springer spaniel, has discovered a chlamydia-free, genetically unique group of koalas near Coffs Harbour! This population could be key to securing a healthier future for Australia’s most iconic species. 🌿 This ground-breaking discovery comes from work led by Canines for Wildlife, Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance Inc. Alliance and Great Eastern Ranges, as part of the Cores, Corridors and Koalas project, proudly funded by WWF-Australia with support from Koala. But these koalas’ future depends on action now. Logging in critical habitats must stop to protect their food trees and vital corridors. It’s time to say YES to the Great Koala National Park. https://lnkd.in/gEZaMs-S #Koala #Conservation #NativeForest #Logging

Could we lose the purple-crowned fairy-wren forever? A new report from WWF-Australia, in partnership with Deakin University, reveals that at 2°C of warming, this rare bird could lose most of its habitat. But by limiting warming to 1.5°C, we could save over half their home and give them a fighting chance. 💜 The next few years are critical, not just for biodiversity, but for delivering on global climate commitments. 🌏 Australia’s next Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement is due in 2025. To align with 1.5°C, science shows we need 90% emissions reductions below 2005 levels by 2035 and net zero before 2040. What legacy will we leave for future generations? Last week, stronger nature laws were derailed in Parliament by business and mining lobby groups. 💔 Business and mining lobby groups stood in the way of progress, delaying Australia’s first national environmental regulator. It’s a setback — but tens of thousands of Australians have already spoken up, and thanks to you, we got closer than ever to real change. If you’ve written to your MP, thank you. 💚 The fight for nature continues. Let’s keep the momentum going. 🌿 Nature needs us, and we’re not giving up. https://lnkd.in/gtDSxHg6

“For 8 billion people and our planet to thrive, we need the first regenerative revolution. We know what to do, and how to do it. We have the capital and technology. We just need to get on and do it.” The WWF-Australia team congratulates CEO Dermot O'Gorman for being one of 25 alumni selected by the IMD Executive MBA Program to celebrate 25 years. These alumni are all featured in the new book "Leading with Impact", showcasing how they are driving change and shaping a more prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive world. 🦘 The fight for nature isn’t over. In this last week of Parliament for the year, the government has failed to pass laws that would have established Australia's first national environment regulator. Those with a vested interest, including business and mining lobby groups, derailed the critically needed legislation to protect nature, just as an agreement was set to be reached. This is so deeply disappointing. It highlights exactly why we need an independent regulator to protect nature. We’re in the midst of an extinction crisis. Bulldozers are clearing bushland, invasive species are spreading, and climate-fuelled disasters like fires and floods are pushing nature to its limits. But this isn’t the end. Thousands of Australians have already raised their voices, demanding stronger protections for nature. Together, we can ensure this unfinished business stays at the top of the agenda. 👉 Stay tuned for how you can keep the pressure on and ensure our leaders make nature laws a priority! #NatureLaws
