Wests Group Macarthur would like to congratulate Directors Greg Copeland and Stephen Stewart on being finalists in the recent NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards run by The Centre for Volunteering – the peak body for volunteering in NSW. Following the regional ceremony earlier in the year, Greg and Stephen were invited to attend a special state ceremony last week at Norths Cammeray for the category of Club Volunteer of the year. While neither Greg nor Stephen were awarded winners of the category, they were proud to have conceded to a large group of volunteers at Coledale RSL Club Pty Ltd. who rallied together to keep their club open back in 2022 following 75 years of trading. Outside of being Directors at Wests Group Macarthur both Greg and Stephen work full time while being active volunteer contributors to local sporting organisations including Camden Rams SRLFC and Magpies Cricket respectively as well as strong contributors to several other sporting and community causes in the region. We would like to congratulate all winners but also the 139,000 amazing nominees across the state submitted as part of the 2024 awards program. Students from the Clontarf Foundation at Airds and Elizabeth Macarthur High Schools recently joined us at Wests League Club for an immersive experience in hospitality. They enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of our club, followed by a hands-on pizza-making class where they savored their creations. The Clontarf Foundation is dedicated to enhancing education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem, and employment opportunities for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men. Not too long ago on the 31st August, we were celebrating the milestone that was 50 Years of Wests League Club. We gathered, not just to mark a milestone for the club, but to honour a legacy that has been built over the last half a century. This event also saw the unveiling of our special 50th Anniversary publication and welcomed many wonderful community friends, staff and supporters together for a nostalgic trip down the last 50 years though pictures, videos and on stage conversations. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate how the small club that opened with just 400 members in August 1974 is now part of the leading club group that is Wests Group Macarthur with over 90,000 members and four soon to be five venues within Macarthur. Wests Group Macarthur would like to congratulate Directors Greg Copeland and Stephen Stewart on their recent nominations in the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards. Both were awarded a certificate earlier in the week at the South Western Sydney / Macarthur Regional Ceremony held in Campbelltown and have progressed as finalists in the category of “Club Volunteer of the year” with the winner to be determined at the state ceremony at Parliament house in early November. Outside of being Directors at Wests Group Macarthur both Greg and Stephen have been active volunteer contributors to local sporting organisations including Camden Rams Rugby League Football Club and Magpies Cricket Club respectively and are strong ongoing contributors to a number of other sporting and community causes in the region.
