Meet Vince Sanderson, a certified management coach and a manager himself. He is also an accredited mediator and has supported hundreds of managers to build trust-filled, healthier and more impactful teams. And he's one of our brilliant experts! Here are his tops tips for handling tricky conversations: 🤔 Switch why to what. Instead of, "Why haven't you done that work?" Try, "What's been the blocker?" 🤔 Swap you for I. Instead of, "You made a lot of mistakes in that work", try "I noticed a number of mistakes". 🤔 Try specifics instead of exaggerators. Instead of, "You're always late for work", try, "Can we talk about last Monday and Wednesday's start time?" 🤔 Switch opinions for facts. Instead of, "This communal area is a mess", try, "There are unwashed cups, can we tidy up?" #WorkplaceCulture #DEI #DiversityandInclusion #BusinessCulture #EmployeeBenefits #WorkplaceWellbeing #HR #HumanResources #InclusiveLeadership

What happens when there's a harmful work culture? This does 👇 . This recent case resulted in a hefty $380,000 fine due to a toxic workplace environment, spotlighting the real financial and human cost of neglecting employee safety and wellbeing. A wake up call for all leaders if ever there was one: creating a positive, inclusive work environment isn't just the right thing to do, it's a legal obligation. #PyschologicalSafety #MentalHealth #WellbeingatWork #InclusiveCUlture #HR #Leadership #WorkplaceSafety

Chappell Roan, a rising pop artist known for her dynamic performances and candidness about mental health, recently made the decision to cancel her appearances at the All Things Go Music Festival in New York and Washington, D.C., to prioritize her wellbeing. For us, this decision highlights three important things: 1. By choosing to focus on her health, Chappell shows the importance of mental wellbeing, even amidst the pressures of rapid fame. But you don't have to be H-O-T T-O G-O to value your health and wellbeing. If your mental health is taking a hit, your workplace should make you feel safe enough to honor that and put some strategies in place to support you. 2. Chappell's decision reflects a commitment to self-care and establishing boundaries that are essential for sustainable personal and professional growth - pop star or not! 3. The positive response from festival organizers and many fans emphasizes the value of compassion and understanding. The All Things Go festival expressed support for her decision, reinforcing that health and wellbeing always come first. And that should go for any workplace. #WorkplaceWellbeing #EmployeeBenefits #MentalHealth #WorkplaceCulture #HR #HumanResources

Last week in our poll, not one respondent said giving feedback was a walk in the park. In fact, most people find it a challenging part of their role. We get it! Giving (and getting feedback) at work can definitely feel awkward—it’s that moment when you’re unsure of how the other person will react, or worried about how to say what you need to say. We’ve all been there, trying to find the right words without making things uncomfortable. But here’s the thing: feedback doesn’t have to be awkward. When done right, it can actually be a great way to grow and improve, for both you and the person you’re talking to. With a little practice, open communication, and a focus on being helpful, feedback can turn into something that feels natural and even positive. Our expert, Rachel Service, says it's important to focus on making your message clear, evidence-based and succinct. Watch her here for more tips. #WellbeingatWork #InclusiveWorkplace #HR #HumanResources #EmployeeWellbeing

TW With R U OK? and World Suicide Prevention Day this week it’s more important than ever to talk about mental health at work (not just this week but every week). Why? Because it helps create a space where everyone feels safe and valued. When people can open up about their mental health, it breaks down stigma and helps everyone understand each other better. This openness leads to better stress management and overall wellbeing, which means better relationships and productivity. Plus, when people feel supported, they’re more likely to ask for help when they need it. Here are two tips from our expert, Cassandra Goodman, on how you can manage your mental health at work: 1. Identify your non-negotiables. What practices, habits or activities do you need to do in order to feel your best? This could be daily exercise, meditation or seeing friends regularly. Schedule these into your calendar so you're more likely to prioritize them. 2. Build and nurture a support system. This should be people you trust, who you can speak honestly to about what you're going through. #RUOKDay #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #WorkingParents #Caregivers #MentalHealthMatters

Our expert, Alana Bennett says a caring culture is one where team members trust and respect each other and feel comfortable turning to their team members for support. You can show your team you care by: 🤗 Being a great listener. Practice active listening and get into the habit of summarizing what you've heard to show you've understood. 🤗 Taking a genuine interest in your teammates as individuals. What do they love and loathe, what drives them? 🤗 Supporting them during challenging moments at work. This could be tight deadlines or during times of conflict. Tomorrow is Wear It Purple Day, a day to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people. Young people who face systemic discrimination outside of work also face institutional barriers inside of work, so ALL OF US (workplaces, leaders, managers and team members) need do the work to break down these barriers. Our expert, Ciarra Jones, M.T.S. Jones has these tips: Take some time to reflect on systems of oppression you may have encountered in the workplace. Allyship starts with one courageous action at a time. 🏳️🌈 If you're a leader: If someone in your team comes to you after experiencing discrimination, make a deliberate effort not to dismiss them and instead engage in honest and open conversations about what happened. Focus on what you can learn and do differently. 🏳️🌈 If you're part of a team: If you notice bias in the workplace, try asking genuine, non-confrontational questions to encourage the other person to reflect. Questions like “That’s an interesting way of looking at it, why don’t you tell me more?” or "I didn't understand the joke, can you please explain it to me"? can encourage introspection without defensiveness. This one has been doing the rounds, and for good reason. Last week, Nate Byrne, a presenter from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) had an on-air panic attack. His response and the beautiful way it was handled by his colleagues and fellow presenters was a sign of a really safe, inclusive and supportive workplace. In his moment of vulnerability, Nate was able to be his authentic self and explain what was happening and the people around him stepped up like consummate professionals and empathetic humans to support him. When we get it right, workplaces can be so protective of our mental health and the social connection and support we receive from colleagues plays a key role in that. Bravo to the ABC for setting an example of a compassionate employer and workplace culture. And well done to Nate for normalizing our struggles as human beings. #WorkplaceCulture #WorkplaceWellbeing #InclusiveWorkplace #InclusiveLeadership #BusinessAustralia #HR #HumanResources

News Breakfast’s own Nate Byrne experienced a panic attack earlier this morning while presenting the weather. He’s open about his panic attacks — he’s even written about them before — and he is doing okay. Here’s the moment it happened and the team’s response.    You can read Nate’s article from 2022 here ➡️ https://ab.co/3X152A4 Stay in the know with the ABC NEWS App ➡️ https://ab.co/abcnewsapp
