As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on a year of progress, growth, and dedication to empowering children, young people, and families to thrive. Anchored by our values: We Care, We Collaborate, We Are Accountable, We Have Courage, and We Celebrate; this year has been defined by remarkable milestones.   As the year comes to a close, we’re proud of the milestones we’ve achieved together: 🌟 Opened the Stirling Early Learning & Development Centre, 🌟 Advancing child safety through our accreditation journey, 🌟 Acquired a 1-hectare site in Bentley to create a collaborative campus for service development (watch this space in 2025…), 🌟 Amplified Grandcarers’ voices through advocacy and partnerships, 🌟 Strengthened our connections to the Aboriginal community with guidance from our Independent Aboriginal Cultural Advisory Committee, and 🌟 Empowered our people and enhanced our commitment to diversity through our TOGETHER AT WANSLEA strategy.   These achievements reflect the collective effort of our team, supporters, and community. Grandcarers WA warmly welcomes the Cook Labor Government's announcement by Minister Sabine Winton MLA of a one-time payment to help alleviate cost-of-living pressures for grandcarers, as well as foster carers, family carers, and special guardian carers. These dedicated carers provide unwavering love and stability to some of Western Australia's most vulnerable children and young people. During these challenging times, this financial relief will play a vital role in covering essential expenses, ensuring that children have what they need as they prepare for the upcoming school year. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our valued partners at Wanslea, whose support has been integral to the work of Grandcarers WA. Together, we share a deep commitment to advocating for the well-being of grandcarers and their grandchildren. We know that Wanslea, like us, wholeheartedly welcomes this announcement and recognises its importance in easing some of the financial pressures faced by these incredible carers. While this one-time payment is a meaningful step forward, both Wanslea and Grandcarers WA call on the State Government to go further by committing to increased support for grandparent carers and their families. We strongly advocate for a significant increase to the Grandcare Support Scheme payment to better reflect the true costs and challenges of raising a child. The current allowances for foster care acknowledge these costs, and we urge the State Government to extend similar recognition and increased investment into grandchildren who are in the care of grandcarers so that they have the support they need to thrive in an increasingly difficult economic environment. Together, Grandcarers WA and Wanslea will continue to work toward fair and lasting solutions that honour the invaluable contributions of grandcarers in Western Australia and the need for increased support for the grandchildren in their care.

Channel 7 Features Our New Micro Library at Mount Lockyer! 📚 We’re proud to announce the launch of a new Micro Library at the Wanslea Child and Parent Centre Mount Lockyer, in collaboration with Albany Public Library. This initiative will bring accessible and engaging books and resources to families in and around the Mount Lockyer area, and we’re excited that 7NEWS Regional WA came by today to film this wonderful milestone! Keep an eye out for the feature on 7NEWS Regional WA tonight from 6:00pm!   Here’s why this collaboration is so exciting: 📚 Fresh Resources: A rotating collection of books, graphic novels, baby books, and parenting resources, updated every three months to keep things exciting. 📱 Convenient Access: Families can easily join online and borrow through the Albany Library App. 🏫 Year-Round Availability: The Mount Lockyer school community will also have access during school breaks!   This new Micro Library joins other community-focused locations at the Albany Health Campus, ALAC, and the airport, furthering the reach of Albany Public Library’s resources.   A big thank you to Albany Public Library and Channel 7 for celebrating this incredible initiative with us. 🌟 A Fairer Future for Grandchildren and Grandcarers 🌟   Grandcarers are the quiet champions of our community, stepping in with courage and love to raise their grandchildren during times of need. Their resilience is unmatched, but their struggles are immense.   Our new video shines a light on their strength and sacrifices, and why they urgently need our support. Together with Grandcarers WA, Wanslea is advocating for a Fairer Future for Grandchildren through these critical actions:   1️. Significant Increase to Grandcare Support Scheme Payments – Reflecting the real costs of raising a child. 2. New Case Management Support Service – $650k annually to assist Grandcarers facing complex challenges. 3. Dedicated Grandcarer Consultant – within the Department of Communities worker to provide consistency of advice for Grandcarers'. 4️.
