Are you looking for a good book or podcast to enlighten and inspire you over the summer break? Our investment team are extensive readers and avid podcast listeners, so to kick off the holiday season, they’ve given us a list of their personal recommendations of 2024! We’ve included some of these below, so if you're finding these have piqued your interest, dive into the full list on our website: https://lnkd.in/g-BMPcGr Have you had a favourite read or listen of 2024? Feel free to join the conversation in the comments below, we’d love to hear your recommendations too! --------------- Andrew Ewington Book - Nuclear Folly: A New History of the Cuban Missile Crisis Author - Serhii Plokhy Nuclear Folly: A New History of the Cuban Missile Crisis offers a deep dive into the flawed decision-making processes that nearly led to nuclear war. Serhii explores critical missteps, misjudgements, and poor communication between Kennedy, Khrushchev, and Castro. The book underscores important lessons in decision analysis, including its cascading effects, the dangers of acting on incomplete intelligence, the risks of assuming the other side’s intentions, and the value of back-channel diplomacy. For those interested in how leadership shapes global outcomes, it provides crucial insights into the weight of responsibility leaders bear and the far-reaching consequences of their choices in high-stakes situations. --------------- David Welsh Book - Blind Spots Author - Dr. Marty Makary Today, more Americans experience peanut allergies than ever in history. The root cause, the American Academy of Paediatrics recommending parents avoid giving peanut products to their children until they turned three. This advice turned out to be fundamentally flawed, inadvertently leading to a huge increase in peanut allergies driven by a lack of early exposure. A true page turner, this book delves into the healthcare system, highlighting how common misconceptions have led to incorrect treatment for peanut allergies, hormone replacement therapy, antibiotics, and many more. Blind Spots might be the most interesting book you’ll read this year! --------------- Tessa Calligeros Podcast - Founders Host - David Senra Founders offers in depth insights into the biographies and autobiographies of notable founders. I find it an easy listen and have gained many valuable lessons. Of the 350+ episodes, one of my standouts is Episode #286 on Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger. This podcast will teach you how best to schedule time to think, focus, learn from others, deal with mistakes, prepare to make quick decisions, and study effectively. #UniSuper #Superannuation #Investments #SummerReadingList #ThinkGreat #CreateGreat

  • We are ecstatic to share that UniSuper received five awards at yesterday's Money Magazine Australia ‘Best of the Best’ Awards for 2025. In particular, we want to celebrate our win for Best Pension Fund, which we’ve now received for the third year back-to-back. This award exemplifies the success we’ve had in our goal to be the Netflix of Retirement, and shows that our personalised retirement experience continues to satisfy and provide greater retirement outcomes for our members. In addition to Best Pension Fund, we also received Best Fixed Interest Super, Best ESG Super, Best Australian Shares Pension, and Best Fixed Interest Pension. Thank you to our hard-working team across Australia for everything you’ve done throughout 2024 to help us earn these accolades, and thank you to Money Magazine, it’s great to close out this year with these wins. #Superannuation #Retirement #Pension #BestoftheBest #ThinkGreat #CreateGreat

    Chief Executive Officer at UniSuper

Last night, I had the opportunity to participate in Deloitte’s panel event, “Unlocking new sources of growth: Meeting the needs of a diverse Australia” alongside other senior executives Andrew Irvine and Sujeet Rana of NAB, Ann Sherry AO of QUT (Queensland University of Technology), Sharmila Tsourdalakis GAICD of Stockland, and Tharani Jegatheeswaran and Paul Rehder of Deloitte Australia.   It was great to share conversations around how organisations need to evolve to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse community, the importance of having diverse Boards and Executive Leadership Teams to respond to changing demographics within Australia, and the approach that UniSuper continues to take with our retirement strategy.   It’s our ambition to become the Netflix of Retirement. We understand that personalising experiences is important, as each member’s retirement will be different and unique to them. Our strategy draws on a deep understanding of the range of member needs, what their preferences may be in retirement, and how they plan to spend it.   Thank you to Deloitte for having me, and to all of those that I had the chance to speak to last night.

Today is the International Day of People with Disabilities. To recognise this, UniSuper recently hosted a lunch and learn to acknowledge our members and employees with disabilities, and to discuss our current and future plans to ensure everyone has equal access to opportunities and resources at UniSuper. Nikhil Bora of ANZ, a visual designer and the tenth person in the world to receive a cochlear implant, told us their inspiring story of co-founding SignHow, an innovative start-up that has produced a global sign language dictionary for communities around the world. We also hosted a panel with UniSuper advocates who are working towards providing greater accessibility, including Logan McBean, Karl Uebergang, Ashleigh Fuller-Thompson and Brendan Donoghue, which led to interactive discussions on common problems faced by people with disabilities and how we can help them overcome them in the workplace. Thank you to Wendy Loo 卢心薇 and our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee who organised these talks, and to our Chief Member and Advice Officer Danielle Mair, who opened the event. #UniSuper #IDPwD
