This Christmas, we’re excited to continue our partnership with Hoops Capital for their Christmas Day game, supporting those who need it most 🏀 This festive season, many Australians are facing increasing challenges. Our research shows that 72% of Australians will spend less this Christmas, with 42% impacted by the rising cost of living, and 56% cutting back on food. “For the Salvos, Christmas is always our busiest time of year. With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, we expect an even greater number of people to be seeking our support,” says Major Gary Masters. On December 25th, the Kings will take on the Illawarra Hawks at Qudos Bank Arena! For every three-pointer made, Kings sponsors will generously donate to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal, helping us provide meals, gifts, vital support, and a new beginning to families facing hardship this holiday season💖 With contributions from Kmart Australia Limited, Harvey Norman, Beyond Bank Australia, and Novotel Sydney Olympic Park, your participation can make a real difference in the lives of those in need. Can’t make it to the game? "The Salvos have never seen the volume and widespread nature of need across Australia like we are right now," says Major Bruce Harmer. This Christmas, countless families are enduring unprecedented hardships, making the festive season more challenging than ever. Last year, thanks to your incredible generosity, we were able to: 🎁 330,000+ gifts and toys for families in need 🍲 184,000+ meals for those experiencing homelessness 🏠 92,000+ bed nights for families needing accommodation However, this year the need has grown even greater. Our latest research reveals that 6.3 million Australians are struggling to afford housing this festive season. For many families, this means their children might miss out on presents and even basic food. 📊 Key findings: 1 in 4 Australians worry their kids won't receive gifts. 2.5 million are concerned their children might go hungry. 1.9 million Australians are reaching out for help this Christmas, with 54% seeking assistance for the first time. 17.4% of Australians may go into debt. 19.2% could struggle to pay medical bills just to make it through the holidays. As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, the pressure on individuals and families continues to mount. It is truly heartbreaking to see the difficult decisions Australians are making to provide for their loved ones this Christmas. How you can help: Donate to support food, shelter, and essential services. Volunteer your time to make a direct impact. Share this message to raise awareness and spread the word. Your support is crucial in bringing hope and relief to those who need it most. Please consider contributing to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal and help us ensure that no family feels alone this holiday season. We’re proud to have partnered with Walker Corporation for a first-of-its-kind Christmas activation at their Collins Street towers, reaching up to 18,000 tenants. From 2–6 December, we collected non-perishable food donations for The Salvation Army and Foodbank Australia. Thanks to the generosity of tenants, visitors, and Walker staff, over 80 shopping bags filled with pantry essentials and household items were collected and distributed to those in need. On Wednesday, 4 December, our Salvos Carol singers and Shieldy brought some extra festive cheer, filling the halls with music, laughter, and the true spirit of Christmas. 🎶✨ A heartfelt thank you to Walker Corporation and everyone who donated, supported us, or stopped by to show their generosity. Your contributions—whether food, cash, or QR code donations—are helping us bring comfort, hope, and a new beginning to individuals and families doing it tough this Christmas. Thank you for making a real difference this holiday season Heart ❤️ #TheSalvationArmy #Salvos #BelieveInGood #Christmas #ChristmasAppeal #WalkerCorporation #CollinsStreetTowers

We’re excited to share the success of the Carinya Therapeutic Program, developed by The Salvation Army Carinya Women and Children’s Service in partnership with Women Illawarra. This vital program supports victim-survivors of family violence in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, helping those facing long waiting times to access essential therapeutic services 💖 Led by Dr.Ellie Taylor, Dr.Johana Susanto, Eliza de Vet, PhD, and Helen Xu, the program’s evaluation used a transformative, co-design approach, prioritising trauma-informed care and cultural safety. The research team focused on promoting social justice, inclusivity, and genuine collaboration with participants, including Indigenous peoples. This evaluation has highlighted the positive impact of culturally appropriate and trauma-informed support for both women and children, empowering them to heal and rebuild. A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially the Research and Outcomes Measurement team, for their dedication and innovation in this important work 🌟 #TheSalvationArmy #Salvos #FVD #Trauma #BelieveInGood

On Christmas day 1974, the cyclone struck with devastating force, claiming 66 lives, injuring 145, and destroying 80% of the city. In the aftermath of this catastrophe, the strength, resilience, and unity of the Darwin community shone through, and The Salvation Army was there, providing crucial relief and support. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy, and we reflect on the incredible response from both the survivors and the Salvos who were on the ground. Captains Alan and Margaret Walker, Captains Hilton and Wilga Morris, along with our officers and volunteers, mobilised immediately to provide more than 25,000 meals at Darwin Airport, establish a warehouse to distribute food, clothing, and water, and offer shelter and care to evacuees across Australia. Through their tireless efforts and unwavering faith, we helped those in need rebuild their lives in the wake of tragedy. Their response was a testament to the enduring strength of the community, and we honour the sacrifices made by those who were directly affected by the cyclone. This commemorative video offers a moving reflection, as survivors and Salvation Army officers who lived through the disaster share their personal stories and memories. Their experiences remind us of the power of community, faith, and resilience—values that continue to guide us today. As we mark this significant milestone, we stand united to honour those who lived through this dark chapter and those who continue to support our mission today. #TheSalvationArmy #Salvos #BelieveInGood #Community #CycloneTracy #Darwin #EmergencyServices
