Imagine this: 9 weeks in and still waiting on an answer. 🤯 Five rounds of interviews. Multiple hours spent on presentations and prep. Fourteen people met, all to be asked, "Can you just complete one more task?" It’s no wonder candidates reach a point where they walk away.... or hesitate because the job market is so tough. 🤕 Too many companies seem to believe this marathon process is thorough, even enjoyable. But in reality, it’s draining—and, frankly, a waste of talent. Hiring should be a streamlined experience, not a test of stamina. ❗Here’s the reality check: An ideal process should take 2-3 weeks, with a maximum of 2-3 stages to respect everyone’s time. If a task is essential, make it reflect the actual role without requiring extra, unpaid work. Instead, think of the interview as your chance to show why people would want to work with you. ❗ Hiring is your shopfront, showcasing your values and culture. Move with purpose, respect the candidate’s time, and make a decision. Because ultimately, the best processes attract the best people—those who are eager to contribute, not those burned out before they begin. Here is a slightly modified task that a community member received... for an hour long presentation.

Facing redundancy can take a huge toll on mental health, and it's important to be open about how you're feeling, even though it might feel vulnerable. When talking to loved ones, how you express yourself is just as important as what you're sharing. It helps to be clear about how stress, anxiety, or other mental health symptoms show up for you—these can often manifest in unexpected ways. One thing I've learned is that it’s essential to create space for your partner or family to have their own support system outside of the relationship. This lets them process their own concerns without feeling like they have to carry everything alone. Listening is key—your way of coping may not work for them, and that's okay. Be open to how they might be affected by your situation too. Most importantly, keep the conversation ongoing. Relationships, like people, grow and change, especially when facing challenges like job loss. And don't forget, the polished lives you see on Instagram rarely show the hard work going on behind the scenes. If you’re going through redundancy, it’s a journey—communicating honestly with those closest to you can make all the difference.

Remember: a job interview isn't just for an company to find an ideal candidate. It's also for you to find your ideal job. Don't ever hesitate to ask questions - it's your interview too. What other questions would you ask?

A great read in The Guardian about the impacts of AI through applicant screening. 🤯 Navigating the job market is already a challenge, but the introduction of AI-driven feedback adds another layer that can impact mental health. Automated personality assessments can deliver feedback that feels impersonal or even harmful, especially to job seekers facing stress or unemployment. Businesses need to ensure that AI complements human empathy, providing constructive insights without exacerbating insecurities. Mental health should be a priority, with supportive measures in place for applicants... sadly something that seems to be overlooked. 😵💫 AI can enhance efficiency, but companies must prioritise humanity in the recruitment experience. #redundancy #layoffs

🚨 The Hidden Costs of Layoffs: Are They Really Worth It? 🚨 Layoffs might seem like a quick fix for financial pressures, but the long-term costs are often underestimated. Research shows that it can take years for companies to recover from the damage done to engagement, morale, and loyalty. 🤔 ⚡ Companies see drops in productivity, innovation, and increased turnover—all of which outweigh any short-term savings. So what can be done instead? Focusing on alternative strategies like retraining, redeployment, and creative workforce planning can help avoid these pitfalls and keep morale high. 💡 What strategies has your organisation implemented to handle workforce challenges? 👇 Let’s discuss! #Leadership #HR #EmployeeEngagement #Layoffs #FutureOfWork #PeopleFirst Article in comments

Jumping on and off the #brat train for a moment to reflect on a few important lessons we've gathered from community members: 👉 Your job doesn't define you: After being made redundant, we realised how much more there is to who we are beyond a job title. It was a chance to rediscover passions and priorities outside of work. 👉 Denise Chippindale 'when one door closes, another path appears: Instead of getting stuck in the fear of what’s been lost, I’ve learned to look forward with curiosity, knowing new and unexpected opportunities are always around the corner... even if it's bloody hard' 👉 Opportunities are made, not just found: It's up to us to take charge—reach out, try new things, and open doors that weren’t even on the radar. Life throws us curveballs. Embracing uncertainty and the discomfort of growth helps us turn challenges into possibilities. Sometimes, letting go is exactly what creates space for what’s next. #growthmindset #opportunitycreator #personalgrowth

💡 The Real Cost of Layoffs: What We Must Consider 💡 In 2024, over 100,000 tech roles have been cut, hitting even industry giants like Microsoft Dell Technologies, and Intuit. While layoffs might seem like a quick fix for business stability, the long-term effects on engagement and morale can be devastating. (Tell us about it! 🤯) Our community sadly understands the human cost behind these numbers. Research shows rebuilding trust and morale can take up to 2 years... and we think longer with the state of the world. We must approach these decisions with empathy and transparency. Let’s support each other through these transitions. Read more over at the Harvard Business School report. https://lnkd.in/eetfHYQJ #layoffs #communitysupport #redundants #empathyatwork
