Exciting news! A new chapter begins at TarraWarra Museum of Art when the Eva and Marc Besen Centre opens to the public on 4 March 2025. This breathtaking new building is a dedicated space for learning and creative inspiration, designed to engage visitors of all ages. With flexible, adaptable spaces, the Centre will host a wide array of events, including exhibitions, educational workshops, talks, lectures, performances, classical music concerts, and live arts events. Designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects, the Centre invites visitors to experience TarraWarra’s permanent collection like never before. Behind a 46-metre-long glass wall, a curated selection of works by some of Australia’s most significant modern and contemporary artists will be accessible year-round. Connecting the Centre to the Museum is a captivating sculpture walk, featuring works by artists such as Clement Meadmore and Antony Gormley, set against the breathtaking natural beauty of the Yarra Valley. With landscape design by OCULUS, the walkway honours the resilience of natural systems and the rich cultural heritage of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, led by horticulturalist and artist, Craig Murphy-Wandin, whose guidance has been integral to this project. To mark the opening, we are delighted to host a series of festivities throughout March and beyond, including behind-the-scenes tours, family-friendly workshops, and live performances. We're hiring! Could you be our new Learning and Engagement Coordinator? The Learning and Engagement Coordinator works creatively and collaboratively with the Learning and Engagement Manager on the design and development of the Museum’s learning experiences and engagement programs for school students, tertiary groups, children, young people and families. The position is responsible for coordinating the Museum’s education programs, including building and maintaining positive relationships with teachers and schools across the state. This is an administrative and hands-on position that requires an understanding of Victorian Curriculum requirements for primary, secondary and VCE students. A key part of the position also involves delivering learning and engagement programs. This is a two-year (0.6 FTE) contract position with option to convert to permanent employment at the end of the contract. We are delighted to announce The Soils Project has been awarded Highly Commended for the 2024 Victorian Museums and Galleries Awards in the Medium Project of the Year (Galleries) category! The Soils Project is a research-based experimental project developed in collaboration with leading contemporary arts museum Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Netherlands and Struggles for Sovereignty, a collective and solidarity network for social/ecological justice based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The Soils Project arises from specific and situated practices that each of the participants and artists brings to their understanding of soil, as both metaphor and matter. The first edition of The Soils Project opened in 2023 at TarraWarra Museum of Art.
