The SIE Team extends a warm welcome to our visiting Academic Stefan Breet, who is currently visiting the Discipline of Strategy, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at the University of Sydney Business School, from November 4th to December 20th. Stefan is an assistant professor of strategy and entrepreneurship at the Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. He obtained his PhD in Corporate Entrepreneurship in 2022 at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. His research examines how organizations and their employees can become more entrepreneurial and innovative. He is particularly interested in the role that workplace social networks play in the generation and implementation of innovative ideas. By combining cutting-edge methodologies, including Social Network Analysis (SNA) and Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA), Stefan aims to bridge the gap between academic rigor and practical impact. We recently had the pleasure of joining Stefan for a series of seminars and workshops, including 'The Double-Edged Sword of Post-Merger Organizational Identification: How Social Ties Influence Employee Initiative Taking', and 'An Introduction to Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA): Core Concepts and Latest Developments'. https://lnkd.in/gpt23_4T.

How entrepreneurial are bears and wolves? An incredible team of interdisciplinary scholars, including our very own Suwen Y. Chen, Jarrod Vassallo, Bastian Thomsen and Christopher Wright have just had their latest paper "Reimagining entrepreneurship in the Anthropocene through a multispecies relations approach" published in the Journal of Business Venturing Insights. Congratulations to all! Please read on below to learn more about recognising the creative and entrepreneurial agency of these non-human beings!
How would entrepreneurship change if nonhumans were granted equal rights, agency, and welfare as equitable partners? In this new #openaccess article, a team of interdisciplinary scholars explores how entrepreneurs can act meaningfully as catalysts for multispecies livelihoods, sustainable development, and ecological rehabilitation. Drawing on their multispecies ethnographic findings, they introduce the multispecies lens in entrepreneurship framework, providing scholars and practitioners with a foundation to consider nonhumans as equal partners within capitalist endeavors. 🔗 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/gFgSCKkT 🖋 Author team: Bastian Thomsen (The University of Sydney Business School; University of Oxford; Sydney Environment Institute), Jarrod Vassallo (The University of Sydney Business School), Christopher Wright (The University of Sydney Business School), Suwen Y. 📢 Excited to share Bart De Keyser's, latest paper 'Communication and strategy work: How corporate magazines shape strategy.' While we usually think of strategy being crafted in boardrooms or through official speeches, there is ample evidence that more mundane organizational media can also play a powerful role in shaping strategy through everyday storytelling. Drawing on the analysis of 500+ magazine issues from six different companies, three key mechanisms driving this process are revealed in Bart De Keyser's new paper: familiarization (connecting strategy to the everyday), confirmation (aligning it with norms and expectations), and regeneration (advancing it through ongoing cycles of creation and destruction). In doing so, Bart sheds light on the emotional and collective sensemaking that fuels strategy - showing how even the small, iterative stories of today can contribute to tomorrow’s success. Intrigued? Check it out in Organization Studies: https://lnkd.in/gDP2BBp7 #The University of Sydney Business School #Communication #Strategy #Language #Management

Very proud to share this fantastic news from one of our academics in the Discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
I was expecting to be recognized as a finalist, but I was truly surprised and honored to be selected as the Winner of SUPRA’s Supervisor of the Year 2024 award alongside my colleague and co-author Chinmay Pattnaik! This recognition made my day and means a great deal to me. A huge thank you to my recent PhD students who have recently graduated and are destined for amazing things: Dr. Afreen Choudhury, who has already published in a top innovation journal and just received her second R&R as lead author at a top journal. Dr. Farhan Ashik, who recently received a Conditional Acceptance at a top business journal—his second high-quality publication. Dr. Vanessa S., who has joined The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania as a visiting scholar (assistant professor) and has a pipeline of four excellent papers. Thank you so much for nominating me! Becoming an academic is a long apprenticeship, and I’ve learned how to supervise thanks to the incredible supervisors I’ve had the privilege to work with and learn from through the the examples they set. A special thank you to: Jaideep Prabhu, who supervised my PhD at the Cambridge Judge Business School. Shaz Ansari, who supervised my MPhil att he Cambridge Judge Business School. Ranjit Voola, who supervised my Honours at the The University of Sydney Business School. It's been a pleasure to work and publish with each of you, and I'm fortunate to call you friends. Lastly, I’d like to show my appreciation to my fellow PhD supervisors, from whom I’ve learned so much and who are actually more deserving of this award than me: Chinmay Pattnaik (who also won this year's award), who led Afreen Choudhury’s supervision. Ranjit Voola, who led Farhan Ashik’s supervision. Steven Lu, who led Vanessa S.’s supervision. Suresh Cuganesan, who is currently leading Niranjika Wijesooriya-Gunarathne’s supervision. The PhD student-supervisor relationship doesn’t end after 3-4 years—it’s one that lasts a lifetime. Shout out to RARE Program for the fruitful collaboration with PAC! We can't wait to see what the future brings to this wonderful initiative!
It has been a busy year so far for the RARE Program! Flashback to July when we had the opportunity to travel to Worimi Country, visiting our project partner- Aunty Michelle from Perry’s Aboriginal Corporation (PAC) in her community at Karuah, NSW. We are proud of our RARE teams who worked incredibly hard to deliver reports for our project with PAC. We are very appreciative for the time Aunty Michelle and her family gave to our students and look forward to continuing to collaborate with PAC in the future. #RAREProgram
