As we step into the New Year, we've been reflecting on the development of our markets in the year that was '2024'. We embraced new clients, projects, geographies, and opportunities across our Defence | Space | Transport | Infrastructure, expanding into Asia, mining and clean energy. We celebrated involvement in the #Sydney Metro City and Southwest (which was opened in 2024), the first Australian Launch Permit and #TeamTECSA, with QinetiQ Australia and partners - a combination of projects and initiatives that represent each of our four key market sectors! Following on from his studies in a PhD on defence industry sovereignty at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre of the The Australian National University, Graeme Dunk, PhD has co-authored an article with Professor Stephan Fruehling and Richard Brabin-Smith AO. Titled 'The Concept of Mobilisation and Australian Defence Policy since Vietnam', they explore 'lessons and cautions for Army in the post-DSR world'. It has been published in the Australian Army Journal, Australian Army Research Centre. Professor Frühling is known for publishing widely on Australian defence planning and policy, and teaches at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, along with Honorary Professor Brabin-Smith, who has held the former positions of Chief Defence Scientist and Deputy Secretary for Strategic Policy. https://lnkd.in/ge9vZYJd #defence #defencepolicy #army #australianarmy

With 'sociable' and 'resilient' being amongst our values, the stars aligned in 2024 to enable us to put them into action. As systems thinkers, we took a ‘think globally, act locally’ approach to get involved in our community. We were pleased and proud to support local and national communities and initiatives, by raising awareness and donating funds. Our knowledge bank of thought leadership continued to grow in 2024. We presented eleven papers at six conferences, nationally and internationally, and won Best Paper at SETE 2024. It was also great to be involved in the Submarine Institute of Australia's 12th Biennial Conference and Defence Teaming Centre's Defence Leaders Breakfast. Today is the last day before we take a break for the holiday season. We've been reflecting on the year 'that was' and all the things that we have accomplished. Today we are recognising the new credentials that Shoal Group Pty Ltd and our team have accomplished: *More than 30 of our engineers are now Chartered Professional Engineers #CPEng through Engineers Australia and our Engineering Workforce Credentialling program. *A finalist in the Defence Teaming Centre Skilling Award *Obtained Hellios Information JOSCAR-AU registration *Our management team completed a two-day Standard Mental health First Aid course. Let's welcome Lucas Meserve, who applied to join our shoal after a "glowing recommendation from a previous Shoal Group Pty Ltd employee!" As an experienced data scientist, with a background working across government, defence and corporate sectors, he brings a wealth of knowledge to benefit our client projects, R&D programs and team members. Lucas' programming sandpit includes Language Models and Natural Language Processing, and the deployment of machine learning tools into secure environments (via Docker). You'll find him in a playground of another kind on the weekend, playing with his toddler, who he one day hopes will join him in exploring his hobbies of cycling and climbing as she gets older.    A Bachelor of Science majoring in Economics and a Masters of Science in Mathematical and Statistical Modelling, underpin Lucas' skillset, to which he aims to add Rust and Go, which are programming languages designed for security and mathematical speed.   Welcome to the team, Lucas! #welcome #joinourteam #systemsthinking #peopleandculture #defence #machinelearning
