What a year it’s been! And we couldn’t have done it without you, our valued clients, project partners and industry colleagues. All Ratio offices will close on Friday 20 December 2024 and reopen on Monday 6 January 2025. In place of giving gifts to our clients this year, we conducted a survey within our team and made donations to Wilya Junta, InTouch, and The Big Umbrella. We could not be more excited about what 2025 will bring. Have a safe and happy festive season everyone, we'll see you soon! #ratio #team #eoy #property #development #holidaybreak #holidays #planning #transport #urbandesign #wastemanagement

New e-scooter bans have been announced for suburbs within the City of Yarra. Concerns from the community about scooter parking have led Council to ban scooters on streets with footpaths narrower than 2 metres. In areas like Cremorne, this effectively prevents entire suburbs from accommodating hire scooter schemes. Looking at Queen Street in Auckland and other global examples (pictured below), we can see how streets can be adapted to support micro-mobility options. In space-constrained areas like Cremorne, such solutions would require more ambitious redesigns. We explored this challenge in our Cremorne office, imagining streets for a future where walking, cycling, scootering, and public transport take precedence over car use. Despite the obstacles faced by shared micro-mobility in Melbourne, there is potential to balance sustainable transport with community needs. We are excited to tackle this challenge and bring fresh ideas to the table. Read more > https://lnkd.in/g2VGkWQt Brett Young #ratio #fosteringchange #transport #micromobility #escooters

We can all agree that it's been a year of exciting change, not just for Ratio but for the entire industry! William Bromhead took a look back at 2024, reflecting on some of the exciting industry announcements, the growth we've experienced across several states, and his new role as our CEO. "If I have to choose something I am most proud of this year, it’s the work we have put into consolidating our presence in New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland, and the client relationships we are forming across Australia as a result." Did you know Australians use more than 150,000 km of wrapping paper during the festive season? That's enough to wrap around the Earth's equator 4 times! This festive season, we encourage you to employ some of the tips our Associate: Waste, Lachy Harris, recommended to the Ratio team earlier this week. 1. Try to find wrapping paper that is either compostable, made from recycled content or sustainably sourced material, or you can use fabric to wrap gifts. 2. Avoid foil wrapping or paper with metallic or glitter coatings, as they are not recyclable. The easiest way to check is to rip it; if it tears like paper, it can go in the recycling bin. 3. Remove sticky tape from paper before recycling. Happy gifting and happy recycling, everyone! #ratio #fosteringchange #wastemanagement #gifts #recycling #wrappingpaper #festiveseason

Congratulations to WIM Resource Pty Ltd, who recently received approval for their Avonbank Mineral Sands Project! The Allan Labor Government and Planning Minister has signed off the Environmental Effects Statement (EES) for the Avonbank Mineral Sands Project. Following further State and Federal approvals, this project will provide essential minerals critical for the development of renewable energy and everyday technologies and will deliver significant economic benefits to the Horsham region and State. Our transport team was engaged to assess the transport impacts of the Avonbank Mineral Sands project, responding to the Environmental Effects Statement (EES) scoping requirements. Our Director: Transport, Aaron Walley, also provided expert evidence on behalf of WIM at the combined Inquiry and Advisory Committee, where it was agreed that the project's traffic and transport impacts can be acceptably managed. We congratulate WIM Resources on this milestone and are excited to continue supporting the growth and prosperity of regional Victoria. Ratio had the pleasure of sponsoring yesterday's The Urban Developer Long Lunch Brisbane. The event focused on discussing both the ongoing challenges and possible solutions for the property market across the Sunshine State. It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with our industry peers and share ideas and strategies. The afternoon provided thought-provoking discussions about Brisbane's current property landscape, and we left feeling inspired to tackle 2025's challenges head-on together. More fantastic news yesterday from the Victoria State Government, which announced the unlocking of more than 6000ha of industrial land in regional Victoria. According to the media release, the 10-year Plan for Industrial Land will transform underutilised land into "hives of activity, buzzing with local jobs and local workers". We cannot wait to see the positive impact of this plan on people and businesses in regional Victoria! Read more > https://lnkd.in/gQFiiX3g #ratio #fosteringchange #land #vic

As experts in assessing our client's waste needs and practices, we decided it was time for us to get in the hot seat and do a Ratio waste audit! Our waste management team visited the bin room at Melbourne HQ, taking a deep dive into the rubbish, analysing our waste habits and identifying items that should have been placed in recycling or organics bins. Since our last waste audit, we've implemented several changes to our systems, and it is great to see that they have been working! We've reduced paper towel use by switching to reusable cloths, improved our waste separation practices through introduction of CDS container receptacles and a dedicated soft plastic deposit station, and we are recycling over three times more waste than last year! Our audits are a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness about how our everyday choices impact our environment. We hope to make continuous positive changes to our waste practices in 2025. Exciting waste management developments are on the horizon for NSW, with the Protection of the Environment Legislation Amendment (FOGO Recycling) Bill 2024 making its way through Parliament! The mandate will require households to separate their organic waste (FOGO refers to Food Organics Garden Organics) for collection and supermarkets to report food donations. We believe that a circular approach to waste management is crucial due to the social, environmental, and financial costs of maintaining the current systems. How will this FOGO bill change our waste landscape? Read more > https://lnkd.in/g-BMRTtH Leonardo Russi #ratio #fosteringchange #wastemanagement #fogo #circulareconomy #nsw #vic
