Seed funding for AUSNZ. We partner with founders who show abnormal potential.
About us
Rampersand is the first investor for Aus/NZ early-stage startup founders with abnormal potential. Since 2013/14, we have been active seed investors in Australia and New Zealand, writing the first cheques for companies like Goterra, JigSpace, and Expert360. We invest thoughtfully and with high conviction to help startups ramp through the early stages and beyond. We have invested AUD$100 million in 34 companies and returned millions to our investors. Across our portfolios, companies have increased in value by 800% on average and raised more than AUD$500 million from investors such as Lightspeed, SutterHill and Acrew. We’ve been involved in startups and tech for decades and have been actively investing for ten years. We’re a dedicated seed fund with $100m invested, a portfolio value of $1B+, and 50+ founders across 30+ startups. We’ve returned millions to our investors. We embrace uncertainty, move fast, experiment and grow. While the industry has grown immensely since we started backing founders, our mission remains unchanged. We back the founders who back themselves to change the world.

As we close the books on the year and look ahead to 2025, we're not just optimistic - we're convicted. We are excited by Rampersand's '2.0' team, the quality of the founders we are lucky to partner with at the earliest stages, and the VP program and platform as a product for founders. Combined with Australia's confluence of seasoned founders, maturing tech talent pools, a strong VC market, and Australia's strategic position to attract new LP capital uniquely positions us for the opportunities ahead. 2025 won't just be a recovery year - it will be the best year yet for Australian tech. 🚀 The annual Giant Warm Intro (GWI) event, connecting seed and pre-seed stage founders with the country's most active investors, was hosted as an in-person event in October for only the second time in its history. As part of the Cremorne Digital Hub’s inaugural Tech Week, GWI bought together investors including Archangel Ventures, Artesian (Alternative Investments), CoAct Capital, Gandel Invest, Giant Leap, Rampersand, SEEK Investments, Skalata, Square Peg, and The Alice Anderson Fund (LaunchVic) together with 40 Victorian-based founders. Since 2020, we have run multiple iterations of the Giant Warm Intro, proudly facilitating more than 1200+ warm introductory meetings between early-stage founders and investors. While we have encouraged all founders to apply, it has become known as the most inclusive platform for underrepresented founders, including women and migrant founders. We've compiled all the stats on GWI for 2024 with some surprising and exciting outcomes! Find out more on our SubStack 👀 👇 https://lnkd.in/gHKVaTeE

“I just love building things. Everything that was happening with AI was so exciting to me. This is everything I dreamed of as a kid; it’s like technology presenting as magic.” - Sam Kroonenburg from Cuttable. Read this fantastic interview by LaunchVic below 👇 👀
Recently, the one and only Sam Kroonenburg sat down with LaunchVic to share the story behind Cuttable's journey and vision. Here are the highlights: 💡 On the big idea behind Cuttable: Sam explains the unique opportunity at the intersection of two megatrends—advertising and AI: "Advertising has gone digital in a very short space of time and created this huge work problem. On the other side, we’ve got this megatrend of AI right now, and it can do creative parts of a job that only humans could do before. When those two megatrends collide, that’s where I see the opportunity." 💼 From humble beginnings to global ambitions: Starting inside one of Australia’s top ad agencies, Cuttable is now helping leading brands of all sizes create ads in a way never seen before. Sam also shared his belief in building global businesses from Victoria: "It’s very doable to build a global business from here. I don’t think that founders have to move overseas." 🔥 Cuttable today: With $5.5 million in seed funding led by Square Peg, Cuttable is redefining how marketers and agencies tackle the "grunt work" of digital advertising —making it faster, easier, and more effective. Six months can indeed go by in a flash! In that short time, our Chief Ramplifier, Chanie Hyde, has hit the ground sprinting after transitioning into VC after spending a large portion of her career within the world of startups. December is an excellent time for reflection, and Chanie has pulled together some of her lessons learned over the past six months in VC: 🚀 Founders First: Every pitch is a privilege. Curiosity and constructive feedback are essential to uncover hidden gems. 🚀 More Than Capital: VC value comes from networks, advice, and tailored support, not just funding. 🚀 Networking is Non-Negotiable: Events and coffee chats often lead to the best opportunities. 🚀 AI Matters: Startups embracing AI for human-centric innovation are standing out. Find out more in the link below 👇 👇 👇
TL: DR - Time is an illusion, and 6 months feels like 6 weeks, but I've learned plenty of lessons over my past half-year in #VC. ✨ It feels like just yesterday that I was chatting with Paul Naphtali and Matt Allen at the annual Cherry Tree Hotel end-of-year get-together to talk about the fact that I was ready to ditch freelancing for something in the #startup ecosystem I could really sink my teeth into. After years of Paul stating, "I'm one of the best Marketing operators he's seen", having introduced me to some incredible teams I've worked with over the years, I said, "Well, we should work together someday!? As luck would have it, Rampersand was in the market for a marketer, so fast forward to May/June; after a spectacularly rigorous interview process and us all making sure this was the perfect fit, I joined the team and entered my first foray into Venture Capital. Where TF did the year go? It's hard to believe that this month marks the 6 month point since I joined the Melbourne team. So, I decided to reflect (as we tend to do at this time of year) and share what I've learned so far... https://lnkd.in/gU9K9Man
