Professor Clair Sullivan is a passionate and experienced endocrinologist who is a leader in digital health for Queensland. In the latest episode of the Senate podcast, we spoke with Clair about how she found herself in digital health. And, on the back of the Senate's 'Transforming Flow' meeting, Clair talks about the new study she has co-authored - the Supa-Flow Study. She explains why access block is not all about the emergency department and the need to understand the complex interactions a consumer has in the care system throughout their journey and across the many interjurisdictional and intersectoral boundaries. Huge congratulations to our former Chair, Dr David Rosengren, on being appointed Director-General, Queensland Health. David, an Emergency Physician, was Chair of the Senate for six years from January 2013 to December 2018 and during that time chaired 17 meetings on a broad range of topics. Dr Tanya Kelly, Chair of the Queensland Clinical Senate, was invited to attend this week's meeting of the Tasmanian Health Senate. The Tasmanian Health Senate is relatively new and the co-chairs and members are keen to learn from our leaders and our 15 years of running a Clinical Senate here in Queensland. The topic for their Senate meeting was the workforce of the future. Our incredible Chair, Dr Tanya Kelly, has announced she will be stepping down from her role, as she nears the end of her three-year term. Dr Kelly was appointed Chair in early 2022 and has been an inspiring and visionary leader. Along with Dr Kelly’s leadership during the latter period of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has led and chaired meetings, with the Senate making recommendations to Queensland Health, on: · Reimagining Healthcare · The First 2000 Days · Research and Artificial intelligence · Healthcare and Climate Change · Transforming Flow: Towards a better experience for patients and clinicians. Dr Kelly has always been steadfast in her focus on improving care and outcomes for Queenslanders, engaging with consumers, ensuring broad consultation and very proudly and superbly representing the Senate at all levels of the health system and beyond. Thank you, Dr Kelly for your commitment to the work of the Senate, your leadership and vision. Dr Kelly will continue in the role until a new Chair is appointed and remain on the Senate Executive as Immediate Past Chair for a year. The recruitment process will begin soon.

Even as a young graduate nurse, Jed Duff was always trying to influence change and implement evidence-based practice when he saw opportunities for improvement. But when he couldn't find evidence to fix the problems he came across, Jed decided it was time to start creating his own. This was the beginning of a successful research career. Professor Jed Duff is now the Chair of Nursing for Queensland's largest hospital, the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, and continues his career-long mission to solve 'real world' problems to improve patient outcomes using evidence-based innovations. Among his current work is partnering with clinician experts to roll out best evidence for treating burns in paediatric emergency departments around Australia; trialling an evidence-based care bundle to prevent device-related pressure injuries in 12 Queensland ICUs; and researching how to mitigate and prevent occupational violence in our hospitals. As an expert in implementation science, Jed is determined not to let evidence sit on the shelf when it could be translated into practice to improve patient outcomes in our hospitals.
