A challenge of migrating is adjusting to a new country’s system of advance life planning, which can be very different to that at home.   QPT research found that Queenslanders who speak a language other than English at home are more likely to have misconceptions about wills, enduring powers of attorney, their legal implications and the organisations that can help them with advance life planning.   #InternationalMigrantsDay is a great time to remember that QPT can arrange and pay for an interpreter if a customer needs additional language support to use QPT’s document-making and other services.   Read Hala’s story in our link to learn more about why advance life planning is important to consider after migrating and to find out how to access QPT’s services for culturally and linguistically diverse Queenslanders.

🎄 ‘Tis the season to be even more alert to cyber-crime risks 📱 💻 💸   Cyber criminals are known to ramp up their activities during the holiday period, when people are doing more online shopping and are also likely to be more distracted than usual, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.   Here are some ideas from the Australian Signals Directorate, which is Australia’s information security agency, on how to protect yourself from seasonal scams.

Q. It’s #HumanRightsDay. Human rights are central to QPT’s customers-first approach to supporting Queenslanders, but what does that mean in practice?   A. It means that when QPT is appointed to act as someone’s financial administrator, it follows a Structured Decision-Making Framework that considers the effect of every decision QPT makes on that person’s human rights, wishes and interests.   “QPT is committed to ensuring that its actions are consistent with the Human Rights Act 2019, and will, as far as possible, always consider the wishes and preferences of our customers,” Public Trustee of Queensland, Samay Zhouand, explained. “This approach reflects QPT's dedication to promoting the dignity and autonomy of those under its care.”

The theme of 2024’s International Day of People with Disability is ‘amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’. That’s a focus QPT strongly supports.
