Why Warehouse Sales Matter More Than Ever for Small Wineries As a small winery, we pour our hearts into every bottle. But let's face it – in a tough economic climate, running a small business isn't just about making great wine. It's about finding ways to connect, adapt, and grow. That's where our warehouse sales events come in. These aren’t just about clearing stock – they're about opening our doors (quite literally!) to invite people into a part of our world that’s often behind the scenes. Welcoming our customers to the winery, chatting with them over a shared love of wine, and letting them stock up on their favourites at great prices is about more than sales. It’s about building relationships that keep us going, even when times are tough. For a small business like ours, these events remind us why we started: to create something real and to share it with others. And honestly, there's nothing better than seeing someone’s face light up when they discover a new favourite drop or finally meet the people behind the label. If you’ve ever been to one of these events, you know the buzz in the air. If you haven’t, we’d love to see you at the next one. Small wineries thrive because of the people who believe in what we do, and these moments make all the difference. To fellow small business owners out there – let’s keep finding ways to open our doors and share our stories. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. Cheers to keeping it real and raising a glass to what we’re building together! #SmallBusiness #Geelong #AustralianWine #WarehouseSales #SupportLocal
About us
Welcome to Provenance, a family wine company specialising in Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. From our early genesis to today, Provenance has always had the one simple objective: to make great wines that exhibit the fruit quality and terroir of special vineyards. For more than 25 years we have searched the southern and western Victorian regions of Geelong, Ballarat and Henty, seeking the best match of vineyard site (terroir) to the best grape varieties. It is the distinctive fruit we work with that enables the crafting of balanced wines known for their silky, elegant power. The seed that Provenance grew from was planted almost a decade before our establishment in 1996. Through the late 1980’s a tasting group of wine enthusiast mates, all who had worked in wine retail in Melbourne, often tossed around the idea of purchasing of a vineyard. It will come as no surprise that it was generally late in the evening when conversation turned in this direction. In 1996, an opportunity to purchase an existing Geelong vineyard presented itself when renowned Melbourne restaurateur Donlevy Fitzpatrick decided to divest himself of a Geelong vineyard. Scott Ireland had managed and made the wine from this block throughout Don’s tenure as owner. Whilst this purchase ultimately faltered, the genie was out of the bottle and 5 blokes financed the purchase, making and bottling of a 1997 Provenance Geelong Chardonnay, all of which was sold in the UK. The next few years saw the search on in earnest for fruit from the right sites to make the best wine. Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir & Shiraz were all produced but by vintage 2000 changed circumstances for the different individuals saw Scott Ireland buy out his mates (happily all still mates today) and forge ahead.

Every year, the highly anticipated Halliday Wine Companion, Australia's most prestigious wine review guide, is released. Provenance has achieved remarkable success in our brief history, including being recognised as the Best Value Winery in Australia for the 2019 edition. We proudly retain our Top (underlined) Red Five Star rating in the 2025 companion, but what does that mean? 5 red stars are awarded as an “Outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity. Will have at least two wines rated at 95 points or above, and has typically held a 5-star rating for the previous three years (i.e. 4 years in total at 5 stars). “Where the red stars are underlined, it is a winery generally acknowledged to have had a long track record of excellence, typically having held a 5-star rating continuously for 10 years – truly the best of the best.” This year, Provenance has been awarded seven golds and two silver ratings. It's an incredible achievement, with our consistently high-rated wines a testament to our commitment to releasing only exceptional quality wines. Our regional wines represent the best parcels from beautiful vineyards in southwest Victoria, expressing their unique origins and the story of the growing season. Achieving a 'special value' stamp on six of our wines demonstrates not only the complexity and depth in each bottle, but also the excellent value they offer. #fivestars #toprated #wineawards #victorianwine #reviews #geelongwinery

It’s go time. As vintage 2024 officially begins today, the toil, dedication, and a year’s worth of passionate care by our vineyard team in nursing every cluster of grapes along to this critical point of harvest. The baton is now passed to our winemakers to capture the season’s story in these sweet little grapes, communicating in wine something that will entertain people and be shared around tables for years to come. It’s a time for the winemakers to use all their skills and experience in guiding the wine through the fermentation journey, making key decisions to showcase the site, variety, and expression of the year. Each variety has its history dating back centuries, each site has its distinct personality, and every fermentation is unique. It’s a time of working hard to carefully capture all the efforts involved and weave the season’s tapestry into a bottle for all to enjoy!
