Liveability metrics to diagnose, prioritise and measure the impact of place investments
About us
At Place Score, we care passionately about making cities better for people. PX Assessments and the Care Factor place census are two dedicated place experience diagnostic, engagement, benchmarking, tracking and marketing tools. They measure the quality of 'place experience' and captures community insights - considering the physical, economic, social and cultural attributes that contribute to people valuing and wanting to spend time in a place. Place Score offers essential planning tools and data for councils, developers and urban planners or designers who are interested in community led design to ensure that urban renewal and investment decisions are embraced and supported by the communities who will use them.

So this is what the future looks like? Not much different than the past? Maybe it’s not hoverboards and transporter rooms but things are changing, some good and of course, some not so good. In 2025 Place Score is recommitting to our mission to make all our places better for people by capturing the social impact metrics associated with place management and capital investment. However you do it, let’s all be advocates for positive change in our communities. Happy New Year from the Place Score team!

A GROWING CONCERN… part 2 Place Score recently delivered an important research project for the National Growth Areas Alliance, with the advocacy work presented at Parliament House in November. The 2023 Australian Liveability Census revealed that residents of Australia’s fast growing, outer suburban local government areas (LGAs) are rating liveability, on average, 6% lower than the rest of the country, and up to 11% lower than their metro neighbours. The lower levels of amenity, Place Experience and social cohesion offered by these areas are likely to impact an additional 2.5 million people by 2031, and a total of 27% of the country’s total population. These types of community benefits research projects can only be delivered because of the local government’s continued partnership with Place Score’s Australian Liveability Census – the country’s largest, consistent liveability study. A GROWING CONCERN… part 1 Are all neighbourhoods created equal? Can fast growing also mean improved livability? In late November, our CEO, Kylie Legge, attended Parliament House with the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA). The event was to launch vital research regarding Australia’s fastest growing outer suburban LGAs. From Deficit to Equity: Investment Solutions for Today’s Infrastructure Needs and Tomorrow’s Housing in Outer-Metropolitan Growth Areas not only illustrates the challenges of continued rapid growth in these areas without significantly higher social infrastructure spend, but also practical recommendations to Federal Government on how to address the growing infrastructure challenges in Australia’s rapidly expanding outer suburb LGAs. As we close out 2024, we’re looking back on the achievements and milestones that made this year special. We worked with communities in Jannali, Parkes, and Cockburn to name just a few… what is so powerful about this work, is how evident it is that the community data insights have shaped impactful plans and projects… and the commitment to long term social impact metrics to measure change over time.
