NBRS is thrilled to share we have finalised the design for San Miguel National High School, located on a small Island just off Tabaco City Philippines, and have now handed them over to a US-based charity Minds Beyond Measure and the school for fundraising. Partnering with Architects Without Frontiers (AWF), a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates and manages building and design projects for communities in need, NBRS created designs for the replacement of a Skills Centre and Library. When Super Typhon Rolly (Gony) tore through the east coast of the Philippines in 2020 many classrooms and facilities were destroyed at the San Miguel National High School. Being a small rural community, vocational training is key for the students to learn and give back to their community through studying the skills of fishing and fish processing, carpentry, hairdressing, agriculture, handicraft and entrepreneurship. The new designs function to allow students to learn these necessary skills through a hands-on approach while combining the outdoor environment which the students love to be within. A key idea of the design was gathering under the mango tree, becoming a key theme for creating a sense of community and protection. Building on this theme, a mango tree will be featured in the courtyard to bring the students together to build on this community feeling while encouraging learning and socialising activities/skills. We are excited that we can have a social impact on this small rural community and that the design will allow life skills to flourish and encourage the coming together of students in a safe and inspiring way. We are happy to support improving mental health initiatives/ raising awareness through designed spaces that promote recovery and rehabilitation. #NBRS, #Architecture, #GidgetFoundationAustralia, #GidgetHouse, #MentalHealth, #PerinatalMentalHealth, #SupportingMentalHealth
Since 2020, we've partnered with Gidget Foundation Australia to help raise awareness of Perinatal Depression & Anxiety (PNDA), and provide support for expectant and new parents in our local communities. Members of Blooms Support Office recently volunteered at Gidget House North Sydney, to maintain their beautiful garden, which Blooms The Chemist originally helped bring to life in 2022 with NBRS Architecture. In recognition of Perinatal Mental Health Week (17-23 November), we are proud to celebrate the efforts and impact of our charity partnership. As the most accessible healthcare professionals, our pharmacy team members are uniquely placed to grow awareness of PNDA, and the accessible and life-changing services delivered by Gidget Foundation Australia's clinical team. #GidgetFoundationAustralia #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #PMHweek2024 #EarlyParenting #PerinatalMentalHealth #Healthcare #BloomsTheChemist #GidgetFoundationAustralia #Gardening #PNDA

NBRS is thrilled to share that 2 of its projects, Campbelltown Billabong Parklands and Blacktown Mental Health Recovery Centre have been nominated to be featured at the 2024 Boomtown Project of the Year Awards, which recognises major projects over the previous 12 months that have, or will, significantly contribute to the sustainable growth of Greater Western Sydney. Campbelltown Billabong Parklands which has been nominated under the Outstanding Community Infrastructure Project Award is located in the heart of the Campbelltown City Centre. Inspired by the Dharawal National Park, the parklands feature recreational water play facilities to escape the heat during the hotter months. Landscaped areas, parklands and amenities to enjoy BBQs, picnics or other social events, and programs run throughout the year. Allowing the Campbelltown community to get out and play, learn, create and connect with each other. The Blacktown Mental Health Recovery Centre which has been Highly Commended under the Outstanding Health Project Award is a new facility that is replacing the existing Bunya Unit at Cumberland Hospital. With a focus on residential care rather than institutional care, the new Centre will be welcoming, comfortable and homely, designed to encourage participation in activities which promote recovery, independence and a sense of purpose. #Boomtown2024Awards, #Architecture, #WesternSydney, #CommunityProjects, #HealthProjects

Narrandera Fisheries Centre was selected to showcase the More than a Fish Kill Documentary on Friday the 25th of October as part of the River Country Tour. The tour itself explores what’s special about the unique river and wetland communities via putting together various events and exhibitions. Designed by NBRS, Narrandera Fisheries Centre is a world-class fisheries research and aquaculture facility that allows specialists to conserve, maintain, enhance, educate the community, protect and monitor the local fish species including Murray Cod, Trout Cod, Golden Perch and Silver Perch. The Fisheries Centre is a contemporary fish breeding facility for Murray and Trout Cod and Gold and Silver Perch, designed to help maintain the species which became endangered due to drought. Visitors can learn about the fish species and hatchery operations via the mezzanine education facility which overlooks the operations. Before More than a Fish Kill was screened, the community was invited to have a picnic and tour the new Centre, finishing with the screening itself which is a documentary that explores how Artists, Fisheries Managers and First Nations Custodians came together in the aftermath of devastating fish kills along the Barka (Darling River) highlighting the importance of needing facilities like the Narrandera Fisheries Centre. #FishConservation, #NarranderaFisheriesCentre, #RiverCountryTour #Design, #Architecture, #Education, #NBRS

NBRS is excited to share our involvement in this year's Deakin University A & B Careers Expo on the 11th of September. Having attended the 2023 Career Expo, Deakin invited NBRS to participate once again after the success of the previous year's expo. Spearheading the NBRS stand was our own Stephanie Ferguson and Ashik D'souza who graduated from Deakin himself with a Masters of Architecture. The expo was attended by over 450 students studying at the School of Architecture & Built Environment - Deakin University who had the chance to learn about the industry. Stephanie and Ashik were able to answer questions, queries and provide their own insights into the architecture industry in general, the NBRS internship program ENVISION, how students can get their footing in the industry, day to day activities within the office and the necessary soft skills required to succeed. Additionally, Ashik helped connect with international and local students looking to pursue a career in architecture. NBRS would like to thank Jane Matthews, Lana van Galen and John Kite from Deakin University, for inviting us to participate in the expo. #DeakinUniversity, #Architecture, #CareerExpo, #Learning, #SchoolofArchitectureandBuiltEnvironment, #NBRSENVISION
