Today we are introducing the next module for our PiezoBrush series: the Module Needle. It is suitable for treating very small areas or areas that are difficult to access in non-conductive materials. It can be utilised for treating narrow grooves, drill holes or other cavities, as the needle allows for very fine processing. For example, in display production, a secure and stable bond between the plastic housing and the display is essential. Plasma treatment with the Module Needle is ideal for pretreating the narrow bonding surfaces, so that the subsequently applied adhesive wets well and is optimally distributed in the bonding joint, resulting in the largest possible adhesive bond. When plasma is used to functionalize a surface prior to bonding, the resulting optimized bonds will display a strong adhesion improvement. The table shows a comparison of the pull off strength of bonding untreated plastics and the same plastics with previous plasma treatment with 2K epoxy adhesive. The comparison shows a significant improved bonding. This surface functionalization achieved by plasma processing relies on a combination of effects: ultra-fine surface cleaning from organic contaminants, modification of the surface topography, modification of the crystalline structure of the surface layer, and deposition of functional chemical groups.
