Great news for 67 young people leaving care! Melbourne City Mission (MCM) is proud to announce a 5-year consortium alongside Quantum Support Services Inc. and Junction Support Services. Together, we are tackling a critical issue with the Housing First for Young People Leaving Residential Care program in the South and East Division of Victoria. This program is designed to ensure that young people leaving care transition successfully into independent housing and long-term community connection—preventing homelessness before it starts. With three years of tailored support plus housing, the program is underpinned by Housing First, Sustaining Tenancies, and Advantaged Thinking principles. We're ready to deliver high-quality, place-based service responses to create substantial positive outcomes. We would like to thank the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing (DFFH) for funding this critical initiative and making it possible. We look forward to working together to change lives and strengthen communities. #YouthSupport #HousingFirst #CommunityImpact #MCM #QuantumSupportServices #MCM #JunctionSupportServices

Melbourne City Mission has officially launched the Youth Housing Initiative (YHI) at a new property in Werribee. This innovative program launched by The Hon. Harriet Shing, Minister for Housing and Member for Werribee and Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas, offers a beacon of hope for young people aged 18–24 who have experienced homelessness, providing them with the stability, support, and tools they need to transition to independence. This initiative isn’t just about housing; it’s about transformation. Through stable homes, therapeutic services, personal development coaching, and pathways to education and employment, YHI empowers young people to rebuild their lives. The apartments were built with a $3.6 million investment from the state government. This launch wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our partners, supporters, and the young residents who inspire us every day. Together, we’re making real progress in the fight against youth homelessness. Let’s continue working towards a brighter future for all young people. Celebrating a Major Milestone at Hester Hornbrook Academy! 🎓 Last week, we had the honour of welcoming Natalie Suleyman MP, Victorian Minister for Youth, to our graduation ceremony. Her presence highlights the critical role government support plays in initiatives like the Living Learning Program, which is empowering young people across Victoria to reengage with education. The 2024 graduating class is a testament to the resilience and determination of our students, who are not just receiving certificates but overcoming significant challenges to build brighter futures. Many of these graduates participated in MCM’s Living Learning Program, a groundbreaking initiative combining mental health and education. 75% of Living Learning students have improved their literacy and numeracy skills, empowering them to pursue further education or training. In addition to its remarkable student outcomes, the program recently celebrated a $3.6 million funding boost from the Victorian Government. MCM would like to thank our government partners - Department of Treasury and Finance, Victoria and Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing and philanthropic investors - Gandel Foundation, Paul Ramsay Foundation, Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation, The Ross Trust, Helen Macpherson Smith Trust for their continued investment in this life-changing work.
