The Victorian Department of Transport and Planning, alongside the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, has outlined the next steps for the state’s Gas Substitution Roadmap. This follows the ban on gas connections for new residential developments and the requirement for all new government buildings to be all-electric. Victoria leads Australia in gas usage for heating, hot water, and cooking, with over 2 million homes and 60,000 commercial buildings connected to gas networks. The state government has now developed a Regulatory Impact Statement, presenting four pathways for electrification by 2026. Their preferred option focuses on: ✅ Electrifying all new and existing residential buildings (excluding gas cooking) ✅ Electrifying all new commercial buildings Gas appliances in existing commercial kitchens and existing residential cooktops are exempt, and allowances are made where electrification is impractical due to costs or space. The community and stakeholders can provide feedback on these options until 28 February 2025. Well done to the Mainbrace Constructions Pty Ltd Pheasants Nest team for the Master Builders Association of New South Wales award. Given the prominent location on the Hume Highway and continuing live operations, this was a complex and high profile project. The aerial shot highlights the scale of the redevelopment and showcases a great result. MBC Group were proud to be part of the consultancy team for this project. Kudos to our Ampol Pheasants Nest team who won our second award at the Master Builders Association of New South Wales Excellence in Construction Awards in the Retail Buildings - New: $50 Million & Over category. A day doesn’t go by when someone doesn’t mention this project. High profile, highly complex, staged around a live and operational existing centre, the finished product is outstanding. Led by Senior Project Manager, George Sereti and General Foreman, Brendan Finnimore, our very first project for Ampol has set a new standard for highway service centres. We love working with Ampol and are delighted to be continuing the relationship on our current Eastern Creek project. The team had a great time attending the awards at The Star on Saturday. Thank you to everyone involved and to the MBA for recognising our work. At MBC Group, we believe in inspiring the next generation of building surveyors and fostering opportunities for young people to explore our industry. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a Year 10 student for a week of work experience. At just 16 years old, he impressed us with his enthusiasm and commitment to learning about building surveying. During the week, we introduced him to some of the critical desktop activities that building surveyors undertake, such as: ✅ Reviewing compliance requirements under relevant building codes and standards ✅ Helping to prepare detailed reports and documentation for projects ✅ Conducting desktop assessments of plans to ensure they meet regulatory requirements ✅ Gaining insights into our inspection processes through a guided walkthrough of our office facilities ✅ Taking time out to have some fun with colleagues While external site inspections were not possible, we provided hands-on experiences that allowed him to understand the meticulous work that happens behind the scenes to ensure quality and compliance in the built environment. It’s rewarding to see young talent embrace the challenges and opportunities of our profession, and we’re proud to play a role in developing careers for young people. We remain committed to creating pathways for future professionals to thrive in the building surveying industry. Well done Jack Hogarth and Adam French for taking Cougar under your tutelage and ensuring his work experience was both realistic and enjoyable! #Buildingurveyors #Workexperience #Futurecareers #Mentoring

When designing childcare centres, it's essential to prioritise inclusivity and compliance to create spaces that cater to everyone, regardless of their mobility needs. By integrating these design elements into the development process, architects and industry professionals can ensure childcare centres are both welcoming and accessible. Understanding the NCC and the DABP Standards 2010 is critical when addressing accessible facilities in Class 9b buildings like childcare centres. Read more in the article in the post from MBC Group Senior Access Consultant Jhoana Colorado #childcare #access #consultancy
This article 📄 explores the essential requirements for designing inclusive and compliant childcare centres 🏫, focusing on accessible shower and toilet provisions as outlined in the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and the Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards 2010. By delving into key provisions for Class 9b buildings, it highlights the importance of accessible design in fostering environments that cater to diverse mobility needs. With a growing demand for childcare services fueled by population growth 📈—particularly in areas like Green Square, Chinatown & City South, and CBD & Harbour—this piece underscores the legal, practical, and ethical imperatives of integrating accessibility into childcare facilities.

Something topical from MBC Group Victoria State Manager, Sam Clark as he considers the impact of AI on building surveying. If your business isn't taking an active interest in the possibilities of this technology, it may not survive the fifth industrial revolution. #AI #revolution #buildingsurveyors
Management Professional | Building Surveyor | Passionate about AI Adoption in the Construction Industry
Building surveying is at a pivotal moment, where advancements in artificial intelligence are creating opportunities to work smarter, not harder. AI isn't just about automation—it’s about enhancing our capacity to manage complexity, meet rising client expectations, and keep pace with an ever-changing regulatory environment. This shift opens up exciting conversations: - How can AI help surveyors deliver more value to clients? - What does it mean to embrace AI as a tool for collaboration, not replacement? - And most importantly, how can AI help address industry challenges like skill shortages and increasing workloads? This is a key area of interest for me, as I see many professionals in our field actively investing in new technologies, exploring available options, or closely monitoring advancements in this space. I believe our industry stands to benefit significantly from a collective effort to understand emerging technologies and collaborate on developing robust systems. Such initiatives can enhance efficiency, improve compliance processes, and ultimately deliver better outcomes for consumers.

Thank you Hansen Yuncken for the invitation to the Health Translation Hub topping out ceremony which we were honoured to attend recently. With good weather, a welcoming team and stunning 360-degree views of the city, it was a fabulous event. This is an old tradition that is held once the last beam is placed on top of a structure. There is evidence that this practice dates back to at least 700 AD. The addition of a tree relates to old Scandinavian mythology which held that each tree had a spirit of its own, and that people originated from trees and returned to trees after death. Before constructing a home, the builders would ask the forest to allow them to use a tree. After the home was constructed, the highest leafy branch of the tree was attached to the roof, so that the tree spirit might still have a place to live and bring good luck to the inhabitants. MBC Group are proud to have delivered our certification services for the construction of this $600 million project to date, and with the rest of the team we now turn our attention to the fitout.
