  • As natural advocates for diversity in architecture, this is the second event in as many months that JourneyOne is jumping on board to support.   Following on the heels of sponsoring the Women in Technology WA Inc. (WiTWA) Tech [+] Award for Architecture, Development and QA, we are now proud to sponsor the upcoming end of year celebration for Women in Architecture (WIA) Australia and IT Girls Rock. I'm so excited to announce this! Over the past few weeks, teams of volunteers around the country have been bringing together a series of Women in Architecture (WIA) Australia End of Year celebrations, all coordinated to be on the same day. 🎉 We have events in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and I'm very happy to tell all of the people I know in Perth about the event we are running here. Parterning with Gry Stene and IT Girls Rock, we have put together a fun evening of speakers, panel discussions, giveaways, door prizes, food and refreshments, plus lots of time for catching up and networking. It's all happening on Wednesday December 11th, at Spacecubed Riff. Doors open at 5:15pm, and you can find all the details you need in the comments below. This event is open to everyone that has an interest in creating a more equitable future in business, tech and beyond. HUGE thanks to everyone on the organising committee here in Perth, Tony Kynn, Vibha Perera, Neil Spragg, Jen O'Hehir, Vannessa V. 🛡, Dr Eunice Sari, Louise Cully, Davis Huang and Envy C.. 💜 Also an enormous thank you to our sponsors Digital Transformation Perth, JourneyOne and Interfuze Consulting, along with a big shout out to our charity partners Breast Cancer Partners and 100 Women. 😊

  • Demystifying AI with a people-first lens is one area in which our J1ers shine; and this was seen in action this morning for Microsoft's Soundbyte webinar, which had as guest speakers Adam Scott and Tammy Rockett from JourneyOne, and Jacob Doogue from ProcessPath.   The webinar's topic was Harnessing AI for Productivity, which was a natural follow-on from Adam and Tammy's previous Soundbyte session, Understanding AI. Both webinars are available on demand via the below links:   ✦ Understanding AI: https://lnkd.in/gX6RJvzc ✦ Harnessing AI for Productivity: https://lnkd.in/g79tQGiM   Today's session was demo-intensive – a risky endeavour, but we can't understate the value of seeing how AI tools can be applied in familiar use cases!   Used responsibly, AI can save workers hours of time each week; it can empower diversity in teams, particularly for neurodivergent users; it can support employees in a way that boosts confidence and satisfaction; and so much more.   With our people-focus, we want to emphasise that the ability to harness AI is an augmentation of people's skills – not a replacement.   We hope these webinars can inspire you to explore the opportunities of AI to enhance your team's productivity. Thank you to Cathy Johar for inviting us to participate in the Soundbyte series!   -- JourneyOne and our fellow Rmkble businesses, DataDivers.io and ProcessPath, are passionate about approaching AI with holistic mindset that fuses human-centricity, business strategy, and technical excellence. Program Lead - Graduate Software Engineering Program @ JourneyOne | Software Engineer @ Jibility | Digital Monad

🛠️ Crafting a Path to Mastery: Designing Professional Development Programs for Graduate Developers At DDD Perth 2024, I took the audience on a storytelling adventure through the ups, downs, and hacks of building a successful Graduate Developer Program. It’s been a six-year journey of trial, error, and breakthroughs, aimed at transforming fresh grads into confident engineers, ready to take on the world (or at least their first product tickets 😉).  💡 The Problem:   Being a new grad isn’t easy. You’re navigating:   - A mentor-less wilderness 🧭   - Theory that didn’t stick and pracs that didn’t prep you 🥱   - The constant chaos of client and product work 💼  And that’s just the start!  🚀 The Solution:  We created a structured program that combines:   - Intensive coursework: From JavaScript to CSS and TDD (yes, even the brain-melting parts).   - Workshops and challenges: Building Connect-4 and more under test-driven conditions.   - Lightning talks and book clubs: Helping grads master tech skills *and* communication.   - Real-world SaaS work: Where the rubber meets the road (and occasionally hits a pothole).  🔥 Key Takeaways:   1. Structured learning beats sink-or-swim. An extended bootcamp phase eased grads into the job and set them up for success.   2. TDD is a journey, not a sprint. Weekly TDD workshops made abstract concepts click and empowered grads to master core development practices.   3. Community builds confidence. Engaging with student groups like Coders for Causes and leveraging graduate "buddies" made a huge difference in fostering support and camaraderie.   4. Iterate on everything. Retrospectives helped refine the program every year, leading to better outcomes for grads and our team.  --- 💬 Final Thought:   Whether you're a graduate engineer or leading a dev team, creating an intentional path for learning is the ultimate unlock for mastery—and happiness.  Got questions? Let’s chat about how we can make professional development better for everyone in tech. Last, but not least: A big shoutout to Louisa Leung for being an awesome room facilitator on the day! Remarkable contribution by J1ers Aish and Rami at DDD Perth's 10-year anniversary last weekend! Both were voted in as speakers, and for those who missed it, here were the highlights:   --- Sun, Sand, and Sustainability: How does WA Hold Up on the Global ESG Stage? – by Aish Srinivas, JourneyOne Basecamp Leader 🌏 The climate is changing and that's what it does, but the rate at which we are asking it to change is unsustainable. 🌏 There is a lot we can learn from Aboriginal culture in how to listen and care for our land, like how to prepare for our harsh summers, rotating seasonally etc. 🌏 Technology like block chain and smart grids can support conscious consumerism with increased transparency and auditability across a supply chain in regards to emissions data, control back to consumers, transparency around ethical sourcing, quality and exposing modern slavery. 🌏 Incite Energy are an inspiring example of this: their smart grid technology, built on AWS, is giving control back to consumers on Norfolk Island (https://lnkd.in/gyMeM3jH) 🌏 Technology isn't the only lever we should pull; wicked problems need wicked solutions, wicked investment and wicked collaborations.    --- Crafting a Path to Mastery: Designing Professional Development Programs for Graduate Developers – by Rami Ruhayel, JourneyOne Software Engineer and Grad Program Lead 💡 Structured learning beats sink-or-swim. An extended bootcamp phase eased grads into the job and set them up for success.    💡TDD is a journey, not a sprint. Weekly TDD workshops made abstract concepts click and empowered grads to master core development practices.  💡Community builds confidence. Engaging with student groups like Coders for Causes and leveraging graduate "buddies" made a huge difference in fostering support and camaraderie.  💡Iterate on everything. Retrospectives helped refine the program every year, leading to better outcomes for grads and our team.  Well done to Aish, Rami, and all the other speakers at this year's conference. To the DDD organisers – thank you for continuing to bring this phenomenal event to the Perth tech community every year! #dddperth #remarkablejourneys

  • Another year wrapped up with a bang for the fabulous Women in Technology WA Inc. (WiTWA) Conference and Awards. The team here at JourneyOne were honoured to play a role once again, as trophy sponsors and loyal attendees!   This was our fourth year on board as an Awards trophy sponsor, and our second year championing the Architecture, Development and QA category. Doing the work that we do in tech consulting, we know a lot of amazing people in these fields and welcome any opportunity to celebrate them.   We therefore offer huge congratulations to 2024's Rising Star and Shining Star winners in Architecture, Development and QA: Margaret Benjamin and Rebecca Platt! We wish you many more successes as your careers continue.   Thank you to the whole team at WiTWA who make these Awards possible. One of the biggest reasons we continue to support WiTWA is because their mission and values align so closely with our own passion for developing the leaders of the future. Their driver of "If you can see her, you can be her" truly resonates with us, because platforming role models and allies is essential to inspire our community's brightest minds to step up and make their impact.   For that reason, we extend our congratulations not only to all the winners of this year's Tech[+] Awards, but to everyone who was nominated (including our very own Alejandra Izquierdo!).   We're excited to see what 2025 will bring next for WiTWA! Tina Ambrose, Teagen McEwan, Suvarna Arora, Charandeep Chhabra, Rami Ruhayel, Ben Bowers, Tammy Rockett, Cat Crane, Meera Chhabra, Arlen Taylor-White, Aish Srinivas, Hnin Ei Kyaw Win (Ei), Alexandra Lodge, Tony Kynn, Yvonne Stickland, Alejandra Izquierdo, Cecilia Jerome, Kimberley Smith   #TechPlusAwards #Seeherbeher #WITWA #techplus24 #remarkablejourneys
