“I encourage everyone to embrace the different ethnicities of the people and countries they work with. It is beautiful and fulfilling. Africa is very rich in culture and diversity. It’s wonderful to see ourselves and each other beyond the working person. All that richness of cultural diversity is so stunning!” said Oluwanifemi Ibijoju, Area People Experience Manager, Sub-Saharan, Africa at IDP. IDP has diverse and talented people in more than 60 countries. Recently, our teams in Sub-Saharan Africa took time out to celebrate their diverse cultures. Thank you, Nifemi, for championing the curiosity to learn, appreciate, and celebrate the diversity of cultures in Ghana, IDP Education Nigeria and IDP Education Kenya. "After the rollercoaster of changes our sector has faced in 2024, it is time to dust ourselves down and head into 2025 ready to fight for the voices that matter most: those of our international students. While policy certainty feels some while off, here are five actions we can take that will help our sector emerge in a stronger position." Our Regional Operations Director, Australasia & Japan, Jane Li empowers the sector with ideas to amplify international student voices and take back control in her piece for the Koala News. https://lnkd.in/eKqcjyvM

In response to calls for a national marketing campaign by Canada’s international education professionals, IDP has launched a sector-wide video campaign titled “There’s a future in Canada for you”. Featuring current international students and alumni from more than 35 leading institutions sharing their positive experiences in Canada, this peer-led initiative aims to help ensure students feel welcome and excited as they embark on their Canadian studies. “IDP is committed to sharing the voices of students and the sector and amplifying the exceptional study opportunities that Canada offers," said Christine Wach, SVP Partnerships and Stakeholder Relations, IDP. "We will continue to support our partners through this new policy landscape and ensure that Canada remains a top destination for international students." The UN Refugee Agency is joining forces with IELTS – which is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP and Cambridge University Press & Assessment – to offer hundreds of displaced people the chance to take the world’s most trusted English language test for free. Only 7% of refugees of university age who wish to continue their studies can access higher education, compared to a global average of 42%. Through partnering with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the provision of free tests, IELTS aims to enable a cohort of displaced refugees to build a long-term future via education and work. "Even while the sector keeps the dialogue open with government about what the longer term vision for international higher education looks like..., there is still work the sector can do. This need not fall to institutions working individually; there is scope for collaborating to develop, and test approaches jointly " Great piece by IDP's Rachel MacSween and Wonkhe, calling on the UK international education community to work together for sustainable growth and improved student outcomes.
