Interim Leadership – Does it Work? We often get asked by Board Chairs and Business Owners alike - ‘Do you think it’s a good idea to hire an Interim Manager to manage our business while we search for a replacement?’ Appointing an interim leader can be a strategic move for an organisation in several situations. Often a Board will ask the Chair to step in – a sound decision usually – except that more often than not these individuals are in high demand and their availability limited. So, here’s why we think an interim leader can be beneficial: 1. Ensures Continuity and Stability An interim leader helps maintain stability during a leadership transition, preventing disruptions to daily operations and strategic initiatives. They can reassure employees, stakeholders, and investors that the company remains on track. 2. Buys Time for a Thorough Search Appointing an interim leader allows the board of directors to take the necessary time to find a permanent leader who aligns with the organisation’s long-term goals. It avoids the risk of rushing into a decision that could lead to a poor cultural or strategic fit. The interim is usually very experienced. They also have no positional agenda so after a relatively short period in the role, they can add valuable insights into the type of person needed to lead the business. 3. Fresh Perspective An interim leader, especially if from outside the organisation, can offer a fresh, unbiased perspective. They may identify opportunities for improvement or address issues that previous leadership overlooked, especially culturally systemic issues. 4. Specialised Skills for a Transition Period Interim leaders are often chosen for their expertise in managing specific challenges, such as restructuring, mergers, or crises. They can help the company navigate these periods effectively before handing over to a long-term leader. 5. Proactive Management Signals The appointment of an interim leader demonstrates that the board is taking decisive action to address leadership needs. This can boost confidence among employees, partners, and investors. 6. Maintains Stakeholder Confidence Sudden leadership gaps can worry investors. An interim leader can provide assurance that the company has a capable leader in place, helping to stabilise share prices and investor relations. Other stakeholders may worry too, but by putting a steady hand back on the tiler during times of leadership disruption, it can calm many nerves. 7. Facilitates Smooth Handover An interim leader can prepare the organisation for the incoming permanent leader by addressing immediate issues, ensuring a smooth transition and establishing an effective onboarding process. If you would like to discuss a specific scenario where this might be particularly effective within your business, please contact www.Humanistiqs.com.au or 0418923981 for a confidential conversation. We have a strong team of Interim Leaders willing to jump in at a moment's notice!

My Takeaway from Steven Bartlett’s Post 💡 Invest in the process, and the process is much more likely to invest in you. Do you, or does someone you know, dread the thought of interviewing? How prepared do you have to be before feeling comfortable going in? I have always been intrigued by the “candidate experience.” More specifically, I commonly talk to career seekers about the candidate experience they choose to have. I appreciate that some people might: - Hate talking about their achievements for fear of portraying themselves as cocky; - Let nerves poorly articulate their strengths due to a lack of natural conversational confidence; or - Fear they will talk themselves out of a job by asking “too many questions.” What is important to know—at least as an Australian employee—is that as of 30 June 2024, there were 2,662,998 actively trading businesses in the Australian economy. So, my message is that embracing a thorough interview process—from both sides—is a pretty quick way to show at least one of 2.6+ million Australian employers the character of the prospective employee they are meeting. ————————— Jimmy (HR Director, Humanistiqs)
Remember: a job interview isn't just for an company to find an ideal candidate. It's also for you to find your ideal job. Don't ever hesitate to ask questions - it's your interview too. What other questions would you ask?

Keep it Simple St;&$! Sometimes we think that in order to tackle a strategic Challenge (C), capture an Opportunity (O) or solve a Problem (P), that we have to think big, develop complex solutions, or come up with sophisticated ideas. What's worse, we might even think we just have to C.O.P it because it’s too hard. When really the simplest outcomes can have the biggest impact. Take this example... While travelling Europe recently, my wife and I came across this wonderful idea that will go a long way to help solve a big environmental problem; ”How do you stop millions of plastic lids from bottles entering the environment?” Answer? Make them non-detachable! So next time you’re confronted with a challenge, opportunity or problem, don’t just C.O.P it because you think it requires big answers. Keep your solution simple; the answer could be right in front of you! And if you need help to unpack your business' ‘C.O.P’, call us at Humanistiqs, or contact me on 0418 923 981 and we’ll help you keep strategic planning simple.

Life on Earth is Relative After spending the last week facilitating a strategy conference in Matera, Italy, right in the middle of the G7, I realised that we are mere specs on the planet - here for a micro moment. Matera is one of only three continuously inhabited human settlements on the planet. That’s right, humans have inhabited here for over 10000 years. So, while we think as individuals we are making an impact and changing our world, maybe think again. Perhaps it’s time to start creating your own legacy. What will you leave behind? What value will the world derive from your efforts? What footprints will you leave in the limestone of time? Who and what will benefit from you being on the planet? And while it’s a micro dot, strategic planning is one way we can impact our micro moments. It feels like it’s long term but in reality, the next opportunity/challenge/problem, is just around the corner. Is the Era of Working from Home Coming to an End? More and more companies are beginning to roll back work-from-home (WFH) policies, bringing their teams back into the office. But what’s driving this shift? And what are the potential pros and cons? Why some companies are moving away from WFH: Collaboration & Innovation: Studies suggest that face-to-face interactions can foster creativity and lead to quicker problem-solving. The Journal of Applied Psychology found that teams working in person reported higher levels of collaboration and engagement. Company Culture: Many leaders worry that long-term remote work dilutes company culture. A report by Microsoft showed that employees felt less connected to their colleagues when working remotely for extended periods. Productivity Concerns: Some businesses have experienced challenges with productivity management and accountability. According to Bloomberg, certain sectors report higher productivity losses for remote employees compared to those in the office. But it’s not all smooth sailing… The downside of ending WFH: Employee Satisfaction & Retention: Flexibility is key for many employees today. A Gallup survey revealed that 45% of remote workers would consider changing jobs if forced to return to the office full-time. Losing talent is a real risk. Diversity & Inclusion: Remote work can offer more opportunities to employees with disabilities, caregivers, and those living in non-metropolitan areas. Forcing everyone back to the office could reduce access to diverse talent pools. Cost Savings: Remote work can reduce overhead costs for office space, utilities, and commuting allowances. A CBRE report estimated companies could save up to 30% in real estate costs with a hybrid or remote model. Whether your company is considering a return to the office or maintaining a remote or hybrid setup, making the right decision requires a strategic approach. Our team can support you with: Workplace Assessments: We’ll help you evaluate productivity, culture, and engagement metrics to determine the best work model for your business. Change Management: If you’re shifting back to the office, we can guide your organisation through a smooth transition, ensuring your team is well-prepared and supported. WFH Success Strategies: For companies continuing with remote work, we can help you implement best practices around communication, accountability, and maintaining a strong company culture. It’s clear that the decision to end WFH isn’t straightforward. While office work may improve collaboration and culture, forcing everyone back may alienate top talent and reduce inclusivity. If your company is navigating this decision, let’s have a chat about how we can assist in making the transition or maintaining WFH a success. #FutureOfWork #WFH #EmployeeEngagement #CompanyCulture #HR #ChangeManagement

Killing the Golden Goose! The Goose & the Golden Egg There was once a Countryman who possessed the most wonderful Goose you can imagine, for every day when he visited the nest, the Goose had laid a beautiful, glittering, golden egg. The Countryman took the eggs to market and soon began to get rich. But it was not long before he grew impatient with the Goose because she gave him only a single golden egg a day. He was not getting rich fast enough. Then one day, after he had finished counting his money, the idea came to him that he could get all the golden eggs at once by killing the Goose and cutting it open. But when the deed was done, not a single golden egg did he find, and his precious Goose was dead. Those who have plenty want more and so lose all they have.
