As 2024 draws to a close and we catch our breathe before accelerating into a very busy election year, one of the highlights of my year was having the honour of being invited into a very special club - the Entrepreneurial Women in Health Network (EWiH) This incredible powerhouse of women business founders have provided me with a truly inspiring, supportive and insightful network where women leaders truly do hold the ladder for each other, celebrate the respective success of each member and provide a judgement-free space to unleash, learn and lean-in. I could not agree more Jane! Two years of hospitals briefing the federal government, the unprecedented step of opening hospital financial records to prove the case to government, complying with government requests for more data, then to have the much-touted Health Check delayed by 3 months, then released on the Friday afternoon before Melbourne Cup and the US Presidential Election, only to see the report contain NO action except for another gabfest… it might lead a cynic to think the government never had, and still doesn’t have, any intention of actually doing anything to address the unfolding crisis on this Health Minister’s watch.

Australia's patients are waiting. Australia needs to urgently develop sustainable funding pathways to ensure all of our peoples have access to cutting-edge therapeutics that are already at the forefront of standard healthcare in multiple advanced economies. Advanced cell and gene therapies are in clinical practice for cancer and rare disease, more are in clinical trials, and even more are coming through for autoimmune diseases, such as lupus and diabetes type 1. Hope is no longer on the horizon, it's arrived. The recommended HTA reforms need to be implemented, and we must make haste.
