Catholic Education in the Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition.

About us

Good Samaritan Education (GSE) is responsible for ten incorporated schools in Australia. Catholic education in the Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition is committed to developing students who will engage with today’s world as grounded, hope-filled young people who are equipped to lead wisely, to listen deeply and to treat their neighbour and their environment with justice, love and the compassion of Christ. Each GSE school is marked by its own distinctive spirit and character, and its strong connection to the local Church. At the same time, each school identifies with and is enlivened by its membership of Good Samaritan Education. Our school communities work together to ensure an educational culture where all are safe, valued and welcomed.

The Challenge of the Parable of the Good Samaritan In a song by American musician Jewel, there is a memorable line, “Only kindness matters.’ This is a simple guide for us to live out the challenge of the Parable of the Good Samaritan today (Luke 10:25-37). What might this look like in our community?  If someone has fallen out with you, it is your job to find a way to find a way to restore that relationship and to show them you care about them as a person. Perhaps the hurt can’t be fully overcome, and your former friend finds other peers to be with, but if you always respond with kindness then you have done all you can. You need to forgive them too and perhaps accept that perhaps your actions might have impacted their emotions and feelings. In time, perhaps the hurt will fade and some positive times can be shared in the future.  If you are kind, it builds community. It will help us all to be better friends in the future. The challenge of the parable remains for us today. Image: Contextualised image of The Good Samaritan Justin O'Brien

  • In our final episode of #CommunioCalling for 2024, we unpack the evolving story of GSE and the journey regarding changes to the governance structure that will come into effect in 2025. Moira Najdecki, Jane Comensoli and Biljana Apostolova join host Gabrielle Sinclair for this important conversation. Moira, Jane and Biljana share with us the journey of discernment to more clearly articulate and structure the civil identity of Good Samaritan Education to ensure clarity for the community and, importantly, civil regulators. This has resulted in moving to a sole-member model, making necessary changes to the GSE standardised company constitution and reporting mechanisms, and deepening and clarifying our ways of relating to ensure communio.
