We believe if we can employ 3 people, that is changing the lives of 3 people who didn’t have meaningful employment. What does it look like to create email content that makes your audience feel something? Chances are, your email inbox is flooded with sales & advertisements, too. This is something we've been exploring at Gedera & Co: How we can create emails that provide some levity to your inbox. Here are some reflections we wanted to share: 💫 For us, connected brand stories come from specific & relatable themes and build context as to why we're doing what we're doing (it's more than just creating Cooking Kits!). 💫 We aim to highlight stories of the heart and of the kitchen. From how we learned build confidence with cooking, to the generational wisdom found in our grandmothers' remedies. As a budding food CPG business, we believe that the foundation of good cooking = supporting each other and the planet. At the grocery store, you’ll notice plastic packaging everywhere. We knew that couldn’t be a standard for us! Even though the investment is quite high, we were determined not to add to the plastic waste with our products. Our founder, Jayani, was determined to ensure we live our value: Zero Waste. So, here are some things we are doing differently to help our planet: 🌏 Our packaging is 100% compostable and recyclable — from the spice blend pouch, to the cooking kit box, to the ingredients in our kits. 🌏 Our shipping process has a small carbon footprint. Our home cooking kits last well in your pantry, and are light in weight, which is great for shipping! 🌏 Bonus: We source our ingredients from small farmers & suppliers in Sri Lanka, so your dollars are tangibly helping people’s livelihoods, from the community where these cooking kit dishes originate from. 🤞🏼 One day, we hope to make our total supply chain sustainable. Which is a giant step for a small, family-owned business like ours. We are proud to take steps toward being a eco-conscious and mindful business, as we continue to grow!

During one of our weekly calls, Gedera & Co team member Samia asked our founder, Jayani, “How did you come up with the Home Cooking Kit? You could have chosen any kind of product to start your business. So, how did this specific type of product come about?” It all started during the COVID lockdowns, when so many people were missing the warmth & healing powers of comfort food. We thought about Sri Lankans who immigrated to Australia, who haven’t mastered Sri Lankan cooking or couldn't find the right ingredients readily available.
