Did you know? The Native Title Act, passed in 1993 and taking effect in 1994, was a pivotal moment in recognising the land rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia. It emerged after the landmark Mabo decision, which overturned the concept of terra nullius (land belonging to no one), acknowledging that First Nations peoples have cared for and held deep connections to Country for tens of thousands of years. The Act allows Indigenous communities to claim native title rights to land and waters, shaping pathways toward justice and reconciliation. Peter Dutton was in the media recently and he used the term- Practical Reconciliation. So, what is Practical Reconciliation? Did you know that Aunty Munya Andrews and Carla Rogers literally wrote THE book on it? It’s about taking REAL actions to create a more inclusive and honest national identity while strengthening relationships between all Australians. It starts with a genuine desire to connect. Combine that with proper training and strategy, and you can forge authentic connections that celebrate and acknowledge the First Nations peoples of this beautiful country. We believe Practical Reconciliation is a burning desire for many Australians—and we’re here to help turn that desire into reality. Let’s take the next step together. 💛❤️🖤 📖 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gjdF2xD #CulturalAwarenessTraining #IndigenousEducation #PracticalReconciliation

🤷🏾♀️Why do we have a Welcome to Country before major events? Sounds like a question for Ask Aunty and her Ally! In our cultural awareness workshops participants are encouraged to ask any question without fear of ridicule, shame or blame - and now you can ask those questions too! Do you have questions about how to show up as an effective and confident Ally? And remember, there's no such thing as a silly question 🙃 #AskAunty #AskAnAlly #AllyTraining #PracticalReconciliation

On this day in 1976, the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act was passed – a groundbreaking piece of legislation that formally recognised Aboriginal land ownership in the Northern Territory. 🖤💛❤️ This was the first law in Australia to grant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people rights to their traditional lands, setting a precedent for land justice across the nation. It was a direct result of the resilience and determination of Aboriginal leaders and communities advocating for their rights. Let’s honour this legacy and continue working towards meaningful Reconciliation and respect for Aboriginal land rights. 💪🏾 #LandRights #IndigenousAustralia #Reconciliation #AboriginalHistory #LandJustice #practicalreconciliation

🤷🏾♀️Did you know that the Latin name for Australia, Terra Australis Incognito, means unknown southern land? Most people get the Terra Australis part right, but often leave out the “unknown” (Incognito). It’s important to refer to the whole phrase because of its implications for Australia being declared Terra Nullius - empty land or land belonging to no one - by European invaders. Of course, Australia was not unknown, unloved or unnamed by its Indigenous people who had and still have an enduring connection to their Country. This is one of the ten questions that most Australians get wrong - now you know the answer to one - see you how you go with the other nine in our online Cultural Awareness Quiz. 👇🏾To test your knowledge, put "QUIZ ME" in the comments below. #CulturalAwareness #IndigenousAustralia #PractitcalReconciliation
