This is what we call community spirit! Our crew at Julia Creek in Outback Queensland will once again spend their Christmas morning making some special deliveries to help local kids stay cool. These are the same people the community can rely on to get the power back on after a storm, bushfire or flood. We take our Santa hats off to them. #communityspirit #locallegends #JuliaCreek
About us
Ergon Energy supplies electricity to 746,000 customers across a vast operating area of more than one million square kilometres – around 97% of the state of Queensland – from the expanding coastal and rural population centres to remote communities in outback Queensland and the Torres Strait. We are all about providing safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable energy solutions to support our customers and the Queensland economy. Ergon Energy was formed in 1999 by the Queensland Government from its regional Queensland electricity distributors and their subsidiary retailer. In 2016, we merged with Energex Limited under the newly formed entity Energy Queensland. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and pay our respect to all Elders past, present and emerging on whose land we walk, work and live on, and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. Teamwork makes the dream work! Thanks to our partners at DOOMADGEE ABORIGINAL SHIRE COUNCIL, civil works at the community’s solar farm site are complete. Joining the Council crew at the site was a wildlife expert, pictured below with a frill neck lizard that was relocated to nearby bushland. Caring for country and cultural heritage is part of our commitment to communities across Queensland. Civil works have paved the way for construction of a new larger solar farm to commence in the dry season. When it’s commissioned, it will further reduce the remote community’s reliance on diesel generation as they draw more than half of their power needs from the sun. This is a fascinating look at what goes into scoping projects; in this case, under the crystal-clear blue waters of Torres Strait.
Last month the Reef Ecologic team ventured to the Torres Strait for a project working with Ergon Energy Network to provide a baseline survey of the benthic habitat between Horn, Thursday and Hammond Islands. Due to the waters being too unsafe to dive, we used a number of survey methods to collect the data. These include using an underwater drop camera, video tows, drone surveys and intertidal quadrat surveys at low tide. Here is a short video of some of the methods we used, as well as a nosey visitor towards the end! 🦈 Overall it was an amazing trip and was great to experience the beauty and culture of these wonderful islands. What was once the season to be jolly has turned into a tense time for people on the frontline of customer service. In our part of the world, the festive season is hot as hell, and severe storms, cyclones, and floods can take out the power to thousands of customers. Before they lash out at our teams fixing the electricity network and answering life-threatening fault calls, our Chief Operating Officer Paul Jordon is appealing to Queenslanders' community spirit and goodwill in the festive phase of our ‘No excuse for abuse’ campaign. #noexcuseforabuse #customerservice #communityspirit

🌀😢👷♂️🙏 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗢: 𝗖𝗬𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗬 Haunting photos from a family album tell the story of heartbreak and hope after Cyclone Tracy smashed Darwin almost 50 years ago. Townsville Regional Electricity Board (TREB) employee Noel Bancroft was among the army of Australians who flew to the cyclone zone to support the recovery and reconstruction effort. Here’s some awesome news: our own Chloe White won the Young Achiever Award at the 2024 AWIC - Awesome Women in Construction Awards. After completing her apprenticeship last year, on top of a Diploma of Business and an Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineering, Chloe is now a secondary systems paraprofessional in our northern regional substations team. “This job demands versatility, requiring me to be practically resourceful, highly knowledgeable, environmentally conscious and an effective communicator. We utilise the latest technology and equipment, keeping pace with the ever-evolving electrical industry, particularly in the context of renewable energy. Through my commitment to safety, mentorship, and technical excellence, I contribute to the continuous improvement of our industry’s standards, striving to inspire and educate the next generation. “I can proudly say that once the switch flicked for me, I have not looked back. Looking ahead, I will advocate for the encouragement and celebration of trade pathways, inspiring young women, fostering a diverse and inclusive future in construction - ultimately giving back to an industry that has profoundly impacted my life. “By sharing my story and mentoring others, I hope to inspire ‘light bulb moments’ and serve as a catalyst, just as other industry leaders have inspired me,” Chloe said. #AWIC #awards #electricaltrades #futureofenergy #sparkettes

𝗥𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲: 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗖 It’s no secret that for some veterans, the battles don’t stop when they return to civilian life. Trauma, stress, depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts can haunt ex-service men and women, taking a brutal toll on veterans and those who love them. And that’s where SMEAC INC. comes in. The veteran-run, veteran-operated charity understands the challenges faced by ex-servicepeople and their families, and Camp SMEAC lies at the heart of their wraparound support. The 50ac bush block on the beautiful Sunny Coat hinterland is a refuge, offering bespoke medical, psychological and allied health support, help with navigating the complexities of claims assessments, and simple, vital connection. It’s an exceptional holistic service and facility supporting veteran families across Qld – it just needed a bit of elbow grease. And that’s where our troops come in. Jon Friend is one of dozens of ex-service personnel working at Ergon Energy Network and Energex. Keen to lend a hand at Camp SMEAC, he put out feelers on the offchance just in case any colleagues might be interested in helping refurbish the camp’s old dormitories and amenities. Jon was hoping for a couple of offsiders. Instead, he got a mini-army: 30 workmates from across the area volunteered, including a number of fellow ex-defence personnel. Over two monster days, our team cleaned, sanded, painted, laid flooring, built gardens, and created private outdoor areas which will be used by veterans and their families to connect, regroup and recover. Some of our team who travelled hours to help camped out overnight to deliver maximum bang for their volunteering buck. For SMEAC Inc, the result was “magnificent”. “What your team did in such a short period of time was far more than (we) anticipated. They worked tirelessly…it was a great initiative, for a great cause, undertaken by great people.” Right back at you, Team SMEAC 🙌 Camp SMEAC is a reminder of the immense price paid by those who serve our country, and the debt we all owe them – something to ponder as Remembrance Day approaches. #lestweforget #veteranshelpingveterans #ADF #RemembranceDay2024 #RSLQld 📸 1. Over decades we’ve built the largest demand management program in Australia, helping Queensland households and businesses save energy and money while they help us maintain a safe and secure electricity supply for 2.3 million customers. As a new member of the Energy Efficiency Council, we look forward to sharing some powerful insights with like-minded organisations. Our Manager of Demand and Energy Management Candice Hincksman will be presenting at the next Energy Efficiency Summit in Melbourne this month. In an increasingly complex energy landscape, we have a plan and flexibility is the key: https://bit.ly/3NU9fAk #energyefficiency #flexibledemand #energytransition #customers
