Supporting pastors, chaplains, and school leaders to thrive in their work
About us
At Envisager, our mission is to support pastors, chaplains, and educators to thrive in their roles. We do this by providing individual and group reflective supervision, coaching, and consultancy services that foster insight, excellence, and growth. 'Envisager' means to consider or contemplate, to imagine or envision. It captures our approach. We don't provide set answers or a formula for success. Instead, we believe in the power of collaborative reflective practice. Through a process of rigorous and regular reflection, we encourage our clients to envision and create their own pathways to success and flourishing. Ultimately, our vision is to inspire and equip our clients to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of those they serve. Envisager's Principal, Jaime Dickson, has 30 years experience working in educational and pastoral leadership. He is a proven leader, teacher, coach, mentor, and professional reflective supervisor. Compassion fatigue is the emotional toll that can come from the constant demands of caring for others. For educators, it can lead to feeling overwhelmed, detached, and drained, impacting their wellbeing, relationships, and ability to fully engage with students. Into this, Reflective Supervision can offer a supportive space for educators to process their experiences, reconnect with their purpose, and find strategies to restore balance. Through reflective conversations they can build resilience and rediscover the joy in their work. When we invest in supporting educators this way, they can not only be sustained but also strengthened in their ability to care for those in their care. Let’s nurture those who nurture.

This article argues that command-and-control leadership is no longer viable. Given that rapid, constant, and disruptive change is now the norm, the role of the manager is becoming that of a coach. According to the authors, this is a dramatic and fundamental shift.

Teachers and school leaders today face remarkable challenges. The practice of Reflective Supervision holds immense potential in enabling educators to thrive in the midst of these challenges. It’s not reporting or line management, nor is it about monitoring performance. It’s a reflective, educative, and supportive space where educators can regularly pause and reflect on their work alongside a skilled, independent professional. "Supervision" (or perhaps better expressed as "Super-Vision") allows us to broaden our perspective, widening the lens on our practice and illuminating aspects we may have overlooked. At times, it helps us focus the lens, providing a clearer view of the challenges we may be facing. And sometimes it’s about seeing our professional practice through different lenses altogether and appreciating the value of alternative perspectives. It's a process that has the potential to empower and equip educators to become more skilled, resilient, and confident practitioners.

"The harsh reality is this: Overwork is at an all-time high, and the new world of work is only making it worse." An interesting piece on the problem of not disconnecting from work, and 3 steps for how to address it: 1. Work out the level of your organisation’s overwork culture and who is perpetuating it; 2. Develop a plan to make incremental improvements; 3. Implement the plan, starting small and meeting people where they are.
