This colourful design by Melanie Skyers was developed in collaboration with Craate Creative reflects the evolving nature of the LGBTQIA+ community and captures the spirit of ‘COLLECTIVE IDENTITY(S)’ – the key theme of Midsumma Festival 2025. 🌟 Pride in Motion: Midsumma Festival's Tram Unites Communities 🌟 Last month, we had the pleasure of witnessing a D-Class Tram being wrapped with the "Skyverse", our striking hero image for Midsumma 2025, developed in collaboration with Craate Creative and artist Melanie Skyers. This very special #RideWithPride tram, now rolling through the heart of Naarm/Melbourne, symbolises the spirit of COLLECTIVE IDENTITY(S)—the key theme of our 2025 festival. Karen Bryant, CEO and Creative Director of Midsumma, was joined by the amazing Michelle Sheppard, a leading advocate and trainer in gender equity. Together, they reflected on how this campaign promotes visibility, safety, and inclusion across all communities, especially those who have historically been marginalised: “Skyverse is more than just a design; it’s a visual representation of unity in diversity. The elements of the design—an abstract deconstructed pride flag—come together organically, symbolizing the power of shared strength in our differences,” said Karen Bryant. This tram, which has been running since last week on route 16, is part of our ongoing partnership with Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria (PTV) through the Department of Transport and Planning, focusing on increasing recognition, understanding, and safety for everyone, no matter their background or identity. Not only does it serve as a mobile work of art, but it also connects communities, from Fed Square to the iconic Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. 📸 We’d love to see your shots of the tram!
