Geoff explains in this article, that while most of the discussion on reducing electricity costs focuses on how the electricity is generated (coal, gas, nuclear, solar), not where the electricity is generated. How does this affect our electricity costs and is it important to consider? #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #LowCost #Power #energytransition #Investment

Renewable Electricity 24/7: Power to Change the World
About us
Our experienced team offers 'risk and hassle-free' turnkey solutions to pressing energy and waste problems. Our vision is to create a better world for future generations by solving waste and energy problems, enabling sustainable human development. We will accelerate the world's transition to a circular economy by constantly innovating to reduce waste, deliver energy efficiency and combat climate change. Our key point of difference is our unique heat engine, which at up to megawatt scale generates up to 3x the electricity from the same (450degC+) heat source as competitors (Organic Rankine Cycle engines), which means low cost electricity. Our on-site bioenergy solutions provide 24/7 heat and power, and potentially turn waste that is otherwise landfilled into biochar - 'true Carbon Capture and Storage'. The biochar can be used as a soil enhancer for agribusinesses. Other heat engine applications include primary energy sources from renewables (biomass, geothermal, solar thermal), methane flare gas (waste water treatment, rubbish tips) and waste heat recovery from industrial processes. Capricorn Power is an innovative Australian company backed by industry veterans with decades of power industry experience. Austeng, a Geelong-based full-service, multi-award winning engineering firm and member of the Victorian manufacturing hall of fame, manufactures, installs and supports the end-to-end system and provides full after-sales support including ongoing maintenance and operations.

In response to the article (and interview) in The Australian last Friday, covering the big investment by HMC Capital towards Australias energy transition and the challenges that come with it (link in the article), Geoff has outlined how Capricorn Power can reduce the cost of augmenting our electricity transmission networks, by complementing large, remote, wind and solar projects with smaller, modular renewable energy systems which are close to electricity customers. Capricorn Power are commercialising its modular power system, which can be located on industrial electricity customers’ premises, generating additional renewable electricity without needing to upgrade electrical infrastructure. Geoff Andrews , Chair of Capricorn Power was invited to attend the proposed "Lara Waste to Energy Project" event held at the GMHBA Stadium by Geelong Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Committee for Geelong, Bisinella and Riordan Grain Services to discuss innovative infrastructure solutions that could shape Geelong’s economy, environment, and community. "..It was an honour and a pleasure to participate in this sold-out event, and to explore innovative, modern approaches to waste which uphold the waste hierarchy (reduce, reuse, recycle....). The Geelong community is clearly eager to embrace local, appropriate solutions to global problems; optimising materials use and tackling climate change. I look forward to the opportunity to work with the broader Geelong community to help develop and implement a 21st century approach to materials management and distributed energy generation.." #WasteManagement #Sustainability #BioEnergy #Waste
Thank you to everyone who joined us at GMHBA Stadium yesterday for a sold-out event that focused on the proposed Lara Waste to Energy project. The event highlighted the importance of local business and community input in shaping how the project progresses, emphasising a collaborative approach to address community concerns. #FeelGoodFridays #positive sustainability News Last Friday I shared about more sustainable options for when we die. But as we know, none of these things are black and white - as we transition, we can make use of what exists to make improvements. An Australian start-up, Capricorn Power, has completed a series of successful trials of what the team behind it says is a commercially viable electricity engine that runs on waste heat – including a successful “proof of concept” trial at a Victorian crematorium. Essentially, harnessing the 250kW of ‘excess’ heat of a 600kW cremetion process to create renewable energy to power our homes and businesses. With waste emissions contributing significantly to Australia’s emissions profile, ‘waste-to-energy’ options are gaining popularity and support. The Victorian-based start up has created a prototype engine uses heat and in future, biowastes, to create renewable and portable energy. Fitting within a shipping container, it’s versatile and flexible. How cool? Or should I say, hot?! #renewableEnergy #heat Read more - https://lnkd.in/gVDmfWH3
