It's been wonderful to watch each company rise to challenges and celebrate big wins and opportunities throughout the GGP. Their dedication to making an impact and contributing to the global climate tech ecosystem is a testament to their resilience, vision and passion. Thank you to everyone who joined us at GMHBA Stadium yesterday for a sold-out event that focused on the proposed Lara Waste to Energy project. The event highlighted the importance of local business and community input in shaping how the project progresses, emphasising a collaborative approach to address community concerns. The panel - Craig Allen from Xseed Solutions, Geoff Andrews from Capricorn Power and Jae Yol Kim from Green Science Pty Ltd discussed alternative waste infrastructure solutions, underscoring the need for innovation in tackling waste sustainably. Special thank you to Richard Bisinella who provided an insightful presentation about the project and what the impacts to our region will be if this was to go ahead and Jim Riordan who gave a passionate speech about the importance of the business community coming together and creating a better future for the Geelong region. But as we know, none of these things are black and white - as we transition, we can make use of what exists to make improvements. An Australian start-up, Capricorn Power, has completed a series of successful trials of what the team behind it says is a commercially viable electricity engine that runs on waste heat – including a successful “proof of concept” trial at a Victorian crematorium. Essentially, harnessing the 250kW of ‘excess’ heat of a 600kW cremetion process to create renewable energy to power our homes and businesses. With waste emissions contributing significantly to Australia’s emissions profile, ‘waste-to-energy’ options are gaining popularity and support. The Victorian-based start up has created a prototype engine uses heat and in future, biowastes, to create renewable and portable energy.
