  • ✈️ Boeing faced significant challenges in 2023 and 2024, starting with a major setback in January when a door plug failure on an Alaska Airlines 737MAX-9 grounded the aircraft globally. This led to the FAA halting Boeing's 737MAX production ramp-up and ordering a comprehensive safety plan. In March, Boeing announced an executive shake-up, with key leaders departing. In August 2024, aerospace veteran Kelly Ortberg took over as CEO, only to face a 54-day strike with the company’s largest union, which ended with a 38% pay rise for machinists. What’s next for Boeing as it navigates these turbulent times? Want access to this kind of insight and more? Become a CAPA member today and stay ahead in the aviation industry: https://bit.ly/3ZO3FVG

  • ✈️ Global air travel continues to exceed expectations, with IATA reporting that global RPKs surpassed pre-pandemic levels by 5.7% in Feb-2024. This milestone marks the first time both domestic and international traffic have outpaced 2019 levels. Despite growing seat capacity and ASKs, RPKs have consistently outperformed thanks to higher load factors. As of Dec-2024, global seat capacity is 105.5% of 2019 levels, while international travel capacity has steadily strengthened. But what’s ahead for domestic travel trends? • Condor Flugdienst has announced a 13% reduction in its summer 2025 schedule from Hamburg Airport Helmut Schmidt, citing rising costs. Several routes will be removed and planned growth, including new destinations, has been cancelled. The airline's CEO Peter Gerber criticised Hamburg's fee increases and called for competitive cost structures at German airports. This follows Ryanair's 12% reduction in its German summer schedule and calls for the government to reduce taxes and fees. Hamburg Airport's CEO dismissed the criticism, suggesting airlines are using Hamburg to influence negotiations elsewhere. The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union instead urged balanced reforms, emphasising corporate responsibility and stakeholder collaboration over regulatory cost cuts. 🔐Read more: https://bit.ly/4guJ13V

  • In 2024, Lufthansa Group's acquisition of a 41% stake in Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways) saw significant regulatory developments, marked by consistent back and forth with the European Commission (EC). The EC's intense scrutiny resulted in conditional approval in Jul-2024, requiring remedies to address competition concerns, such as slot transfers at Milan Linate and agreements to enhance competitiveness on transatlantic and Central European routes. The year witnessed extensive negotiations, culminating in Nov-2024 with the selection of easyJet, IAG and Air France-KLM as remedy takers. For ITA Airways, 2024 marked a turning point, as the opportunities of an integration into Lufthansa's network started to become much more of a reality. 🔐Read more: https://bit.ly/4iHPGJB
