Last week, Calvary North Adelaide Hospital celebrated more than 50 of their fantastic volunteers with a delicious Christmas lunch. A small token of Calvary's gratitude to a group of people who give their time to make the lives of others a little brighter. It was also an incredible opportunity to recognise some milestone years of service, including Pathma who had volunteered at the hospital for 35 years! "One of the most important things about support for people living with dementia is that people feel known, because when you feel known, you feel valued." Kerry Taylor runs the memory support program for residents at one of six Calvary homes in Melbourne's Mornington and Bayside area that have adopted a dedicated program based on Montessori principles. There is no cookie-cutter approach to the small-group program, which is designed to support and improve the wellbeing of residents by providing time, tasks and activities tailored to the likes and needs of each. The program is making a difference for the residents and the homes more broadly and recently won Calvary's national Star Award for quality and safety. #calvaryagedcare #healthcareleaders #dementiacare #awardwinning

Our National CEO Martin Bowles sat down with Michael Smith The Australian Financial Review to discuss the key changes, short-term and long-term, he believes will lead to necessary genuine reform of the private hospital system: • Make the health insurance premium price setting independent • Review and modernise the funding mechanisms of the hospital system.
The relationship between private hospitals and health insurers is complex and cost pressures are a consideration for all stakeholders. @CalvaryHealthCare National CEO Martin Bowles is calling for all to put the patient at the centre of necessary reform.
