Most of C&R’s projects require field visits to remote locations, necessitating thorough preparation to ensure a safe work environment. Additionally, mine sites often have site-specific operational requirements. C&R’s fleet of dual-cab utes is fully equipped to meet mine specifications, including 5-star ANCAP safety ratings and mine-spec diesel compressors. Our field staff are also highly experienced in navigating off-road and wet-season conditions, enhancing safety and reliability in challenging environments. A serene #sunset over a #sorghum field near Clermont, Queensland. The sunlight highlights the vibrant green and earthy tones of the crop against the warm hues of the setting sun. Sorghum is a drought-resistant grain widely cultivated in this region, valued for its resilience and versatility as food, fodder and biofuel. The team at C&R wishes everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! May 2025 bring success and new opportunities for all. #CnRconsulting #environmentalMonitoring #regionalAustralia #remoteWork

The praying mantis (order Mantodea) is an #insect known for its distinctive elongated body and forelegs adapted for grasping prey. Found in diverse habitats across Australia, praying mantises are skilled ambush #predators, lying in wait for unsuspecting prey such as insects and spiders. Their #camouflage and predatory behaviour make them effective hunters. What animals do you find fascinating? #CnRconsulting #wildlife

Flowering #mangroves along the beach. Mangroves provide habitat and food for a range of species, including insects, birds and fish. Mangroves also stabilise shorelines by trapping sediments with their roots, preventing erosion and enhancing water quality. These trees are adapted to salty, low-oxygen conditions and help #protect coastal areas from storm surges. C&R frequently assess the ecosystem health of mangrove environments. Acarina are frequently collected in #macroinvertebrate surveys to monitor #freshwater ecosystems. These microscopic, aquatic arachnids play crucial roles in nutrient cycling. As bioindicators, changes in their abundance and diversity can signal shifts in #waterQuality and #ecosystemHealth, making them valuable tools for freshwater ecosystem monitoring and conservation efforts. C&R regularly assess macroinvertebrate populations to determine the health of aquatic ecosystems. After collecting field samples, we count and identify the specimens in our #laboratory – before evaluating these data in terms of habitat conditions. A high-resolution image taken via aerial photography. Many of C&R’s projects include sites inaccessible on foot, especially in far northern Australia. Consequently, we frequently rely on our drone survey capabilities to assess properties like ecosystem health and river channel profiles. These drones are equipped with specialised camera equipment, enabling C&R to monitor for changes in the landscape. The tawny frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) is a #nocturnal bird native to Australia, often mistaken for an owl due to its large, wide eyes and #camouflaged plumage. By day, they roost motionless in trees, blending seamlessly with branches. The individual in the photo decided to pull up for the day, resting in an unusual spot after a night of hunting insects and small prey. What camouflaged animals have you spotted? #CnRconsulting #environmentalImpactAssessment #wildlife

Almost conformable bedding between two rock units in the Proterozoic rocks found in north Queensland. The underlying argillaceous (muddy) unit and the overlying arenaceous (sandy) unit both show indications of the #deformations that have occurred over at least the last 1000 million years. C&R have experience in working in a range of geological contexts, ranging from Archean rocks to recent coral reefs and sediments. Known for its large mouth, the mouth almighty (Glossamia aprion) is a #freshwater cardinal fish native to northern Australia and New Guinea. Found in slow-moving coastal streams, rivers and billabongs, this nocturnal species is a voracious predator, feeding on smaller fish and invertebrates. Females lay a relatively small number of large eggs that are carried by the male in its mouth until the larvae hatch, providing protection from predators. C&R are regularly conducting detailed assessments of aquatic ecology. Inland floodwaters can cover vast areas, particularly in low-lying basins and #floodplains, and can persist for weeks or even months. Such floods have widespread #impacts. Australia's semi-arid regions are especially vulnerable because these #floods can transform typically dry landscapes into temporary wetlands, promoting both ecological renewal and challenges. Understanding inland flooding is crucial for improving flood management, predicting flood patterns, and mitigating long-term risks to communities and ecosystems. C&R have extensive experience in predicting the behaviour of soils on the floodplains. When floodwaters evaporate, salts are deposited both within and on the soils of the floodplain. The composition of these salts may have major influences on the behaviour of the floodplain soils on the next inundation.
