Our final Regional Leader event for 2024 was a Workforce Skills Roundtable with businesses from across Western NSW. We launched our State of Skills 2024 report which highlighted that 80% of Western NSW businesses are still facing significant skills shortages. We focused on exploring how we address these gaps and seeking out possible local solutions. Well done to RDA Orana and Hunter for a developing the Golden Highway Transport Study business cases, which confirmed the value of improving the Golden Highway rail and road connections between the Orana & Hunter.
RDA Orana and Hunter officially launched the Orana Hunter Connections and Beyond Golden Highway Transport Study business cases at yesterday's roundtable meeting with the Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, The Hon Jenny Aitchison MP, government, industry and business leaders. The business cases confirm the value of improving the Golden Highway road and rail connections between our regions so we can maximise our shared competitive advantages and seize the once-in-a-lifetime development opportunities for the benefit of our communities and a long-term view. A key outcome of the roundtable meeting was the support for the formation of a Golden Highway Taskforce, which will help lobby for infrastructure improvements to minimise impacts on local communities while keeping freight moving safely and efficiently between the Orana and Hunter regions and the Port of Newcastle. We were excited to host the first event in our Regional Leader Insights Series at The Exchange Orana in Dubbo on Wednesday. Thanks so much to Megan Callinan (Marathon Health Australia), Todd Raffen (Almighty Industries) and Justin Enright (Morse Group) for generously sharing your insights on Workforce attraction and retention, innovation, cyber security, leadership and opportunities and challenges for Western NSW businesses moving forwards. This led to lots of great discussions within the session and the networking afterwards. Thanks to all of our Regional Leaders who could attend the event and looking forward to our next event in Orange shortly.
