🌾 New preliminary research findings suggest that wheat falling number test results could improve with time in storage. GRDC Grain Storage Extension Team lead Chris Warrick said trials by Agriculture Victoria’s research team at Horsham SmartFarm indicated wheat falling number could increase by up to 50 seconds and even exceed 300 seconds post storage. “We are not talking about magic, specific storage conditions are essentially an attempt to stop the very early stages of germination,” said Agriculture Victoria research leader Dr Cassandra Walker. "We are typically very slow adopters of technology. We’re certainly not the people to jump onto new things early, but this one I saw as a bit of a game changer. It fits really well with my ethos of good practice farming." We recently caught up with Kyle Pearse, a mixed cropping and sheep farmer from Donald who recently deployed a SwarmFarm Robotics autonomous spray unit to his farm. "The SwarmBot finished a paddock last night and when I checked the tracking on my phone, I saw that it sprayed just 12% of the paddock, leaving 88% untouched by unnecessary chemical application. I’d rather spray less of the paddock at a higher rate to concentrate the chemical where it needs to be." 🔗 Read the full article: https://buff.ly/491g0dh This project was supported by the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund. #FutureDroughtFund #ausag #automation Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Victoria Drought Resilience Adoption & Innovation Hub
