Have you ever had an X-Ray or a CT scan? The process can be complicated and time-consuming and in the crucial first “golden hour” after a stroke, any delays can be life-threatening. 🏥 Micro-X, with help from the The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF) and Microscopy Australia, is trialling portable CT scanners in ambulances – in the hope they will speed up diagnosis and revolutionise stroke care. This work is supported by the department’s NCRIS program. Learn more at http://srkr.io/6043n9J. #NCRISimpact

This year, Roundabout Canberra were the beneficiaries of our 2024 Graduate Program’s fundraising activities. Throughout the year, the Graduate Fundraising Committee encouraged participation in a range of events and activities across the department, including chocolate sales, happy hours, raffles, bake sales, a silent auction, and trivia night. During the graduate completion ceremony, Fundraising Committee Co-Chairs Jack, Kaylah and Jessica presented a cheque to Roundabout Canberra, revealing this year's graduate cohort raised a total of $19,275.27! Funds raised will go towards providing safe, high quality, essential baby, and children’s items to families in need. This is an incredible achievement, and we are immensely proud of this year’s fundraising efforts.

Did you know that cement and concrete production generate around 8% of global emissions every year? This makes cement production the world's single biggest industrial cause of carbon pollution. Researchers at the UNSW, in collaboration with Adbri and AUSTRALIAN STEEL MILL SERVICES PTY LIMITED, have successfully created a low-carbon concrete mix that replaces 50% of cement with a by-product of the steel-making process called slag. This not only reduces the carbon footprint of concrete but also significantly enhances its strength and durability. This research is enabled through the department’s Australia's Economic Accelerator (AEA) program. Learn more: http://srkr.io/6046ndK #AEA
