Six Sri Lankan students are now better equipped to complete their education thanks to APNA's regular donation of decommissioned laptops to Melbourne charity Friends of Lanka. The charity is dedicated to supporting the education of disadvantaged school and university students in rural parts of Sri Lanka who are at high risk of dropping out, giving them hope for a brighter future.

In a move that will improve access to essential health care and empower nurses to work to a broader scope of practice, Registered Nurses with appropriate qualifications will now be able to prescribe approved medicines when supervised by an authorised health practitioner. The agreement to endorse a scheduled medicines and associated registration standard for Registered Nurse Prescribers was announced at last week's Health Ministers Meeting in Hobart. "This will be a game changer for enhancing access to care and, in particular, medication management", says APNA President Karen Booth. "For General Practice in particular it will help enhance team-based care -enabling general practice teams to more effectively use their registered nurses." "Nurses are already well placed and supporting their regular patients with medication management and care advice as part of chronic condition care monitoring and management. Incorporating RN prescribing will enhance team care and improve access for many patients." #nursesarethesolution #nurses #trusted

Last week was a big one for APNA! Alongside leaders from other nursing and midwifery organisations, our President, Karen Booth, and CEO, Ken Griffin, were busy in Canberra, meeting with politicians to tell them how Australia’s nurses, nurse practitioners and midwives are skilled, trusted, experienced, safe and ready to do so much more. The launch of this joint campaign is the first time in over 40 years that we've come together to form an alliance and campaign for meaningful primary health care reform. Why? We want to unleash the potential of our primary health care workforce to work to their full scope of practice and improve access to quality and affordable health care for all Australians, no matter where they live. #nursesandmidwivesarethesolution
