Your trusted charity for allergy support

About us

Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia (“A&AA”) is a registered charity and Australia’s only national support organisation, dedicated to helping individuals and carers alike in managing allergy and anaphylaxis. We strive to raise awareness of allergic conditions including life threatening allergies in the community by providing evidence based information, resources and services to support children and adults living with allergic disease. Allergic disease is a chronic condition that includes allergic rhinitis (hayfever), atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma, food and insect allergies and other potentially life-threatening conditions. We help Australians manage the everyday, improving quality of life, health and wellbeing. As food allergy is a community issue, A&AA's outreach and education is broad. The circle of care embraces and engages individuals at risk of anaphylaxis and those who care for them. We also work closely with related areas in state and commonwealth government departments, food industry, health and teaching professionals, as well as the Australian community at large. The organisation has a small workforce and receives invaluable support from a core group of dedicated volunteers. A&AA is governed by constitution and a Board. We utilise the expertise of a Medical Advisory Board as required. We are a part of an international alliance of like-minded organisations and work closely with peak medical bodies including the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA). The National Allergy Strategy (“NAS”) is a partnership between ASCIA and A&AA, of which our CEO is the co-chair.

  • We were excited to officially launch Eczema Connect today at Perth Children's Hospital - a pilot program and research project developed by Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia. Our CEO Maria Said AM launched the program together with Professor Michaela Lucas and the families of babies Kat and Ivy, who have had to overcome severe eczema. Our aim with Eczema Connect is to provide parents and caregivers with evidence-based information and practical tools to help manage their child’s eczema, while they wait to see a dermatologist or allergy specialist. Huge thanks to our friends Bite Communications Pty Ltd for rallying the media support and helping raise awareness for this program. We look forward sharing more about this project over the coming months, we know it will help change a lot of lives for the better! To read more about the program go to https://lnkd.in/gupHphz8

That feeling when three news crews walk through the door of your press conference 👏 👏 👏 It's been a busy day working with Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia to launch Eczema Connect at Perth Children's Hospital. This pilot program is a game-changer for families, providing expert advice and practical tools to manage their child’s eczema while they wait to see a specialist. It started with a cross on Sunrise Ch7, followed by a mid-morning press conference and an afternoon of radio. • The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has issued a new MEDICATION SAFETY ALERT for oral antihistamine promethazine hydrochloride, sold as Phenergan® and other generic brands. Promethazine hydrochloride should not be used in children under six years of age due to reported side effects. A&AA would like to remind people that the use of sedating antihistamines like promethazine hydrochloride are not recommended for the treatment of allergic reactions. Sedating antihistamines can cause sleepiness, making it hard to know if a person having an allergic reaction is sleepy because of the medication or because they are experiencing anaphylaxis.
