Great to chat to Charlie McKillop on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Far North as we head off to Canberra this morning to fly the flag for Australia’s most populous northern region ahead of the coming Federal election. The delegation of about 30 leaders from across the region is being led by ourselves at Advance Cairns, Tourism Tropical North Queensland and the Cairns Chamber of Commerce to push for critical investments and policy decisions that impact Far North Queensland. These include deepening understanding of the role FNQ plays in an increasingly fragile geo-political environment with a call for four of the six new Arafura vessels to be based in Cairns, and for the operational arm of the Office of the Pacific to move from Canberra to the region. We’re also pleased to support Cairns Regional Council in its call for further Federal funding for the city’s water project and delighted to have Mayor Amy Eden joining us for this critical advocacy push. A host of meetings and events with Ministers, local members and shadow spokesman on a range of issues planned for a jam-packed week, with our sights firmly fixed on the Federal election. #CairnsTNQdelegation2024.
