About us

The Wellbeing Advantage is led by Janine van Someren PhD and Ken van Someren PhD, who have over 40 years of scientific research, coaching and corporate leadership experience. As a professional accredited transformational coach with a PhD in life story research, Janine combines a passion for wellbeing with skills of high-performance testing to promote sustained change with positive psychology and behavioural change strategies. Ken is a world-leading expert in health and performance, with a PhD in exercise science. He led the scientific support of Great Britain athletes through the London 2012 Olympics and launched the GlaxoSmithKline Human Performance Lab. He is a key opinion leader in wellbeing policy and practice. We are passionate about applying our learnings from high performance sport, such as the value of marginal gains, importance of sustainable change and adapting behavioural change strategies for the corporate world. We provide wellbeing support in the workplace for employers who want to support their staff and empower stressed and overwhelmed employees to increase their health, happiness and productivity through our talks, workshops, customised programmes, transformational coaching & performance profiling to build energy & resilience. We are certified service providers of "FirstBeat Life": a wearable technology that allows us to monitor your heart rate variability and 3D motion tracking for bespoke lifestyle assessments with a focus on sleep, energy and resilience. The data is accessed via the FirstBeat App which clients access whenever they wish and data is reviewed with their wellbeing coach within coaching sessions. This technology is available as part of our corporate wellness programmes or as part of a bespoke individual package. Data privacy is a high priority for us and only anonymous group data is shared with the employer.

Instead of searching for an unattainable I advocate for finding a "work-life fit"—a more realistic and sustainable approach to integrating work and personal life. ⚖️ 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠-𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙫𝙨. 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠-𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙁𝙞𝙩: 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚? - Work-Life Balance: This traditional idea suggests a clear separation between work and personal life, with an equal distribution of time and energy. However, achieving this perfect balance can be unrealistic and stressful, as it implies that work and life are opposing forces that need to be evenly managed. An impossible standard for me and my clients so we look for something else.... - Work-Life Fit on the other hand, focuses on integrating work and personal life in a way that aligns with your unique needs, values, and circumstances. It recognises that the ideal "fit" will vary from person to person and can change over time. This personalised approach to health and wellbeing is essential! Why Work-Life Fit Matters? - Flexibility! Work-life fit allows for more flexibility, acknowledging that there will be times when work takes precedence and other times when personal life needs more attention. A classic example is the push and pull of personal and private as we approach the Christmas break. The goal is to create a harmonious integration that supports overall wellbeing. - Personalisation: This approach is highly personalised, taking into account individual preferences, career goals, family responsibilities, and personal interests. It encourages you to find a rhythm that works best for you, rather than striving for an unattainable balance. - Reduced Stress: By focusing on fit rather than balance, you can reduce the stress and pressure associated with trying to achieve a perfect equilibrium. This promotes a more realistic and sustainable way of managing work and personal life. - Overall Enhanced Wellbeing:) A work-life fit approach supports overall wellbeing by allowing you to prioritise what matters most to you at any given time. This can lead to greater satisfaction and fulfilment in both professional and personal domains. Life is dynamic, and work-life fit allows for adaptability as circumstances change. Whether it's a particularly busy work period, you've started a new job, you've got a growing family, or you have a period of personal responsibility outside work, this approach provides the flexibility to adjust and thrive.
