Public offices will reopen on Monday, December 30th from 9.30am to 4pm with phones staffed from 9am to 5pm. On Tuesday, December 31st offices will close at 1pm. Phones will be staffed until 2pm and thereafter all calls will be transferred to the Council’s out-of-hours services number. It may be the longest night, but brighter days are coming. On Saturday, December 21st Waterford City and County Council will light up its landmark buildings in Green for the annual Samaritans Longest Night appeal #SamaritansLongestNight.

From February 1st, 2025, it will be illegal to own an XL Bully type dog without a Certificate of Exemption. All XL Bully dog owners must apply for a Certificate of Exemption on or before January 31st, 2025. For more information visit : https://loom.ly/sFKmrKI

Waterford City and County Dog Shelter, Bilberry, will close at 1pm on Monday, December 23rd. The Dog Shelter will reopen on December 30th and December 31st (11am – 1pm & 2pm- 4pm) The facility will close on New Year’s Day and reopen as normal on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025.

Window 3 of the Community Recognition Fund 2024 is open for applications from the 4th December until the 8th January 2025 at 4.00pm. The fund is specifically targeted at projects that are located in cities, towns and villages that are hosting the Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and/or International Protection Applicants. The Fund aims to support the development of facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community. The overall allocation for Waterford is €1,436,394, of which €282,701 is available under Window 3. The application process will involve a competitive process with specific evaluation criteria. For the purpose of Window 3, applications will be accepted from the following areas: Dungarvan/Ballinroad/Abbeyside, Tallow and Clonea Power/Mothel, as these areas were identified as having significant numbers of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries and may not have received funding allocation in Window 1 or 2 earlier this year. Funds may be reallocated if no suitable projects are identified within the target areas. This is the final call for applications under the Community Recognition Programme 2024. The workshop will be followed by a site visit to a local social enterprise Renew, Johnstown, Waterford. Lunch will be provided.
