Recently we at Pyramp began our functional testing of our Engineering Qualification Model before a live test in a cement cool down grate. We tested with a local air temperature of 1000°C but we expect a local air temperature of ~800°C in the real industrial environment. The #Engineering #Qualification Model has passed this punishing lab test with a low thermal conductivity approaching that of refractory. The goal of the EQM is to produce a #robust encapsulation platform for TPV. The Engineering Qualification Model will allow us to characterize our lifetime predictions and a new version will provide #power density measurements for a variety of candidate materials and process locations. #TPV has the potential to capture an enormous quantity of #energy from wasted radiated heat from high temperature industries like cement, steel, and glass. In the cement context it is estimated that TPV can provide somewhere between 10% and 25% of the electrical demands of the cement process without increasing any fuel consumption or changing the energy balance. This increases the overall plant #efficiency and reduces demand on an ever more loaded #electricity grid. #Industry #Sustainability #Innovation #Ireland #EU
